Elvis Presley and Dean Martin both have great versions of this classic song as well. The Elvis version was included on his fantastic From Elvis In Memphis album with his iconic hit, In The Ghetto. Elvis's vocal is deeply moving and the cut features a stupendous bass line by the legendary virtuoso bass player, Tommy Cogbill.

Unchained Melody - Well, obviously this song has a ton of cover versions. According to wikipedia at least 1500 and counting. I will list the 3 top ten hit versions in 1955 first and then the cover versions that I actually prefer.
    Les Baxter
    Al Hibbler
    Roy Hamilton

Now the greatest cover versions by artistic measure and not commercial considerations:

    1) Elvis Presley - His live version of this chestnut that was on his last album released while he was alive, Moody Blue, featuring his amazing vocal range and awesome power! He also surprisingly enough was playing piano on this stupendous version!
    2) Roy Hamilton - One of Elvis's very favorite singers and his version above was no doubt influenced by Roy and John Gary's mellifluous version listed below.
    3) John Gary - This truly underrated singer had a vocal range of almost 3 and a half octaves and breath control that even Sinatra must have admired.
    4) Righteous Brothers - Okay, obviously Bobby Hatfield sang this song eloquently and passionately as well, but it still isn't my personal favorite version, but I do acknowledge its greatness!

and more than 300 other artists. At one point in the late 1960s it seemed that every second male recording artist was doing a version, and quite a few of the ladies had a go as well.

I wrote the following as part of a post:

    Which drew the following response:

I've got 12 different versions of the song (including one by Leonard Nimoy, another by The Boxmasters [lead singer Billy Bob Thornton], and one more on the Moog), and the Miller version is my favorite. There's something about the way he sings the song and the arrangement that works perfectly.

    I'll let you judge:
