This thread will continue in December, with the release of 'I Still Have Faith In You', the first new ABBA single in 36 years!

    ABBA loose ends, Part 3:

Those who have read this entire thread have learned that some U.S. single releases mentioned and pictured in Discogs haven't been proven to actually exist, but are digital manipulations (a fourth 45 on Playboy; a stock copy of "Eagle"). Others may exist, but the Discogs photos are blurry or inconclusive and no other copies can be found online (a promo 45 combining the English and Spanish versions of "Chiquitita"; an Atlantic 45 rpm promo of "Estoy Sonando"; a long/short 12-inch promo of "The Visitors").

There is one more purported ABBA single to add to this list, and this one isn't on Discogs at all, but on 45cat.

In 1986, various record labels, including Atlantic in the U.S., released a post-breakup compilation album called ABBA Live. To promote it, Atlantic sent a video to various outlets called "The ABBA Medley," which combined parts of some of the songs on the album (Waterloo/Money, Money, Money/Chiquitita/Fernando/Super Trouper/Dancing Queen/Thank You for the Music). This video is on YouTube and is unquestionably legitimate:

Supposedly, also in 1986, a promo-only 45, also called "The ABBA Medley," was released with "Take a Chance on Me (Live)," presumably the same version that appeared on the international single of "I Have a Dream," on the flip, on Atlantic PR 624.

Whether it's the same medley as on the video above is unknown. For that matter, whether this 45 really exists is unknown. It was first posted in 2012 without a photo, which isn't automatically a disqualifier. (I own plenty of 45s listed on 45cat that have no photos, especially from the 1990s and 2000s, and if my collection and a scanner are ever in the same place, I'll start adding them.) But, as is true of the unusual listings on Discogs, I can't find any other proof that this record exists. So this is yet another alleged ABBA single for which the jury is still out.

(Unless someone wants a tl;dr summary of the regular Atlantic 45s in this thread, this should be the last in this series.)

I own both of these small hole, USA pressed Epic singles. Unfortunately there's not much I can say about them that isn't already listed on Discogs or 45cat.

"Take A Chance On Me" has no markings or info etched in the runouts, they're completely blank on both sides, hence the lack of detail on Discogs. "The Name Of The Game" does have 5750-176 etched on the A side and something similar etched on the B side, but it's nearly impossible to say what for certain as half of it is underneath the label.

Not much help I know, but it's all I can tell you.

It was also included as the representative entry of Sweden on the Official World Cup 2002 album (despite them being Finnish). The single version's rap has quite different lyrics to the "Burnin Sneakers" album version. We didn't actually get a lot of Bomfunk MC's releases in the UK, the first single from "Burnin Sneakers" - "Super Electric" - was so unsuccessful here that their UK label refused to release the album or any later releases. Fortunately I got an import copy. A cousin of mine went to Stockholm on business and got me a copy of the "(Crack It) Something Goin On" single which has a pretty cool b-side "Pam Pam" on it.

There is something deeply ironic about ABBA singing a song called "Thank You For the Music". Surely it's us that should be thanking them?

The soundtrack to the second 'Mamma Mia' movie has been released today. It features a piano driven version of 'The Day Before You Came' by Meryl Streep.
The TV and the book reference in the song have been replaced by contemporary references. There's not a single episode of 'House of Cards' (instead of 'Dallas') that she hasn't seen, and she must have read the latest book by Margaret Atwood (not Marilyn French) or something in that style.

Meryl Streep's version is available on Spotify (like all songs from the soundtrack). It's not my cup of tea but other ABBA fans seem to like it a lot.

What's funny is that I own only a small percentage of the records on that list. I only own four of the picture sleeves, for example. The rarest item I own is the white-label promo of "Another Town Another Train." I also have a stock copy of "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)," which didn't chart and has an edit unique to the U.S.

Are you sure that video is legitimate? Some of the songs suffer from PAL speedup (namely those taken from ABBA The Movie) which is highly unlikely if it came from the US as you would have used NTSC/film as the source.

Well, ABBA: The Movie was never released on VHS on this side of Greenland so Atlantic must've received a PAL copy (the UK VHS, perhaps?) and didn't convert it.
