Not the most proliferate but in your opinion the greatest. If you choose other please specify in the thread. I’d really like to know! Thank you.

I don't think I've seen anything better than a Fender-made custom shop Charvel or Jackson. The nut is just perfect.

The custom shop does incredible work. A friend has the Fender Custom shop Nocaster and wow...the work is top notch.

I’m really curious how this comes out although I’m betting the Strat comes out on top.

I kind of like Eddie's Frankenstrat. Throw some Gibson humbuckers on a strat body and you have... well in the words of Monty Python "something completely different"

If I played in a band full time, that played RnR in all of its sub genres dating from the 50s to the present, and I could only have one model of guitar, there is no question that I would choose most flexible, adaptable and ergonomically comfortable electric guitar ever designed: the Fender Stratocaster.

I think the list needs a Gibson 335 and Epiphone Casino.

It is a battle between the Strat and the Les Paul, but the Strat has the edge.

I figured I’d overlook something which is why I added an other choice. Hopefully people will do as you’ve done and add it to the thread. Should be interesting.

My response was the Strat, with Jerry Garcia's 1972 work on the Nash Strat (Alligator) a big reason why - it's got a bite. I agree that the Gibson 335 (somewhat loosely including its close relatives) needs to be in this poll. Alvin Lee and Bob Weir being two primary examples. But part of what makes music so diverse is the instrumentation used. There's room for everything.

I have a Gibson Les Paul and a 52 reissue Tele. My teenage son however will only touch a Strat nothing else.

There are some great boutique guitar makers like John Suhr and Tom Anderson, as well.

Hard to beat a Strat with a humbucker in the bridge for versatility.

Think the all rounder would be the Strat( lightness/versatility), though I like Gibson LP for power chords. Gretch country lead, Rick..jingle jangle,

I could see the 335 being considered for greatest guitar of any kind, and I might make an argument for that. So it probably needs to be on the list. Gretsch omission is a bit glaring, too. If you include Ric, you probably need Gretsch, arguably more widely used over a longer period of time in RnR.

Aside from an4 year spell of being on and off used by John, George and Paul, I don’t believe the Casino rates inclusion about RnRs greatest guitar. Cool axe. Beatles used it effectively. Its claim is pretty much as a Beatle guitar, not unlike the Hofner bass...

What does J Mascis play? Whatever it is, that's the greatest rock guitar ever.

Good point and added. I do want to stick to classics and exclude boutique guitars otherwise the list would get impossibly long.
