Just had an LP arrive that I paid $50 for. The cover was originally really nice...NM and still in shrink. Now it's VG+ at best with a dog-eared corner because the seller was too cheap to buy a decent mailer.

Is it really too much to expect someone to spend an extra dollar on a quality mailer that offers corner protection, especially for (somewhat) pricey LPs?

No, and why I always make my own cardboard CD mailers. Laziness is no excuse and it's not exactly rocket science.

I find that quite a few UK sellers through eBay and Discogs use cheap, thin resealable envelope style mailers for LPs.

Extremely annoying, isn't it ? Once someone has shown me that that is how they're going to ship an album, that's it, I'm done with them. Absolutely no point in ever giving them another dollar of my money.

Or maybe you care about sending, and receiving an album in a proper manner.

  7. Why should they incur the cost? And how do you know it's the packaging and not the handling?

  8. One of my biggest pet peeves in this hobby. These days, I have a pretty limited # of people I buy from as I know I won't be burned by mis-gradings or sloppy mailings.

A well-packaged LP is much less likely to be damaged in transit than one that isn't.

Because flimsier mailers are going to more susceptible to damage. When I received a record broken into pieces last year, it was because not only did some sociopath decide to bend it in half, but the light cardboard made it that much easier.

  11. Well, duh! That doesn't answer the question though.

  12. That much easier to bend? Anything packaged in cardboard, even the cheaper ones, only become a concern when mishandled.

I experimented after that, trying to bend incoming albums, in standard mailers, and it took much more effort. I'm talking really flimsy. Like the boxes model cars came in, where it tears like paper.

  14. I'd consider providing adequate shipping materials to be a cost of doing business, and should be factored in to the price of the record or the shipping costs. If they're selling on this site, use the savings from not having to pay a listing fee to cover it.

  15. If a buyer is concerned about packaging then they should communicate this with the seller.

The savings is so small for those using these, it's beyond any common sense, and simply greed.

So strange to see Amazon finally getting it right, while some go in the wrong direction.

  17. That's completely unacceptable...we're talking about LP mailers.

  18. Many of the good sellers (here and elsewhere) specifically mention how they ship in their listings.

A loss of my business, yes. Also, since this is still America, I'll continue to warn others, esp. when they ask.

  21. And I do as well, plus I give them on option for even better shipping.

I started this thread, shortly after joining this forum, because I had never, from starting my collection in 1964, to 2010, ever received an album through the mail, so I was fascinated by it. It's a tool for others to use when choosing a great seller here :

Free Speech. Because I've got a fishing buddy of a known retailer that thinks I should keep my bad experience to myself, in another thread in this sub-forum.

He thinks a sturdier mailer should be requested !?!?
