There was a time that I found USPS tracking to be unreliable, they would often miss scans. These days, though, they seem a lot more reliable and very rarely miss a scan.

Is this other people's experience with USPS tracking these days?

Updates can be inconsistent, but actual delivery status seems on 'track'. :righton:

I have not noticed much change. I usually have at least five or six items in transit at any time and check on them daily using "Informed Delivery" on the "MYUSPS" site. Really hit and miss. I had an item delivered last week that did not get a first scan until it arrived at my local post office. I have had quite a few tracked items delivered recently that are not reflected as such with USPS.

I think it's improved a lot in regards to tracked international deliveries. It seems to be much faster receiving goodies from my neighbor's to the South compared to 5 years ago.

My experience is that USPS tracking isn't as accurate or detailed as UPS or FedEx tracking but it's a lot better than it used to be.

Since around Nov 1, 2017 Media Mail has been terrible. FCM and PM are great as usual.

It may be because I have moved from the Milwaukee WI area to Portland OR. I always got great service back there even with Media Mail. Overnight delivery statewide, here it might take a week. I'm talking Milwaukee to Madison, or Fox Valley, and Green Bay. No experience in the NW part of the state. Duluth is an 8 hour drive.

Kudos to the folks at Lakeland District! I know who they are cause I did direct mail for around 30 years.

If I have to sign for something, and I'm not home, it's a huge pain in the ass. There was a certified letter a couple of weeks ago that went all over the place when they couldn't deliver it. Then Saturday I was supposed to get my Budgie, but they didn't wait long enough at the door for me, and I rescheduled delivery for today but of course it didn't show up. I hate USPS. I'm going to ask shippers to please do not ship it with a signature required or I'll have to wait 10 days after the first attempt to get it.

So the first delivery attempt was Saturday the 10th...on the slip it says I can pick it up at the post office....any time after the 19th....wtf?

They consolidated hubs nationally late last year, and they're still working out the kinks. I've had a similar experience - First Class and Priority Mail packages used to get to me (or to my recipients) in 2-3 days 99% of the time. Now it's about 50% of the time, and the other 50% of the time it's a week or even two weeks in transit, most of which is sitting around at a regional hub, or bizarrely going back and forth between two hubs.

They seem to have got better in the last year or so. It's been a few years since I've had a package for me seemingly delivered to some random address out-of-state, and I haven't had to chase up any international deliveries for a long time, either.

On the other hand, we had a lot of snow last week, and a few packages failed to make the last mile despite being tracked as "Out for Delivery", with the reason given that my property was inaccessible. Felt a bit peeved by that as I'd shoveled the sidewalk and steps to the front door that morning, to avoid precisely that outcome. I expect our friendly mail person was fed up trudging through the snow with Christmas tips a long time away, fair enough I suppose...

I had a rare record I won on ebay shipped from California to the East Coast on Monday sent USPS priority.
I have not received it yet as of this Friday. The tracking shows the label was created by the seller but the post office never got the package.
I contacted the seller who said he will check into it and refund me if it goes missing.
Maybe it`s only a mere post office glitch.I`ve had stranger things happen before. Then again one of those things was when the seller changed his mind about selling the item or somebody offered more after the sale ended.I really wanted the record because it was difficult to find, not a refund.

    I find it helpful.

Happily the Israeli post handles Not Registered Usps first class packages from the USA as registered Airmail ! I always can track it at every step in the USA and when the package in my country I can see by the custom barcode where is it at every step until the postman brings me the package personally, of course I am very happy about it.!

most of the time arrival is between 7-14 days.

Only USPS can ship a record from San Diego, CA to Seattle, WA via Jersey City, NJ! I ordered a record from Germany on the same day I ordered this and it has already arrived. :buttkick:

Most of these peculiar routes are in fact a result of the correct tracking number not being relayed to the addressee. That rather obvious and mundane explanation is not as much fun, admittedly.

Not understanding you. When my shipment originates in Kentucky, flies past me to Pittsburgh, sits there for 5 days, then comes back down to Memphis, and finally to Nashville, and my tracking number matches exactly, your post doesn't apply.

I got you beat. I ordered a record from Japan that got to me before a record that was shipped to me from Connecticut. Both shipped on the same day and I'm less than 2 hours away from CT. The package from Japan wasn't express mail either.

USPS tracking is also hit or miss. Sometimes it goes from 'USPS picked up item' to 'Delivered' with no updates in between.

I was going to start a new thread called "Adventures in Shipping" but this seems to be as good of place as any for this little tale.

First of all, I often marvel at the efficiency of USPS. For all of the complaining that goes on, I generally have had outstanding experience, both when shipping and receiving. That said, this incoming item's tracking history is quite amusing...

If you read from the bottom up, this was handed off to USPS by UPS on 9/4/18. Two problems here. UPS overshot my house by 100% when handing off to Bell rather than Anaheim. Problem #2, I don't have a lot of stuff that routes through Bell/Bell Gardens but I've heard this is an utterly incompetent hub. Seems to be true in this case because it then went to a post office in Garden Grove. Back to Bell Gardens, gosh knows why, and then Anaheim (which is usually VERY reliable and accurate) sent it to Newport Beach!?!? Back to Anaheim and at this point I have every expectation that I will see delivery today.

    We shall see!

When all is said and done, this is more annoying than anything else. I'm not calling for the Postmaster's head or trashing the goodwill that USPS has earned over the years. I'll get my purchase, later than expected but as long as it arrives unscathed despite all of the extra travel and handling, I'll be good.

I believe Bell Gardens is the major USPS hub for SoCal.

It may be a major hub but there are several in the area. My stuff rarely goes through Bell Gardens, particularly if it is traveling from east of where I live which is the rule rather than the exception. Only a couple of late including this one have gone through Bell Gardens and "adventures" are apparently guaranteed.

    The rest of the journey...

It made it. Intact? Unsure as there is a disturbing laceration in the upper left part of the box which may have impacted the box set inside. I'll need to snap a picture before opening it up.

Regardless, I should get a free frequent flyers plane ticket given how far this thing traveled!
