I believe that particular photo was taken at Madison Square Garden in '79 during "Trick of the Light". Pete played Entwistle's 4 string Alembic bass while Entwistle played his then-new custom 8 string Alembic.

That must have sounded strange. The song has electric guitar riffs all over the place.

Funny how his stance and the way he's playing looks like he's playing guitar.

The photo of Pete playing bass guitar with The Who was taken on September 10th, 1979 at The Capital Theatre Passaic New Jersey. The Who played two warm up shows on the 10th and 11th in preparation for the shows at Madison Square Garden.

That's a great picture. My bass teacher would have a conniption if he saw me fretting the strings like that (or playing with a pick).

If this performance was typical of those in 1979, the live arrangement compensated for the lack of electric guitar with keyboards and (clumsy, imho) horn stabs.

I knew this had to be photoshopped because there's no way Pete could have a vertical leap of over 3 feet. Just sayin'.

Yeah, they photoshopped out the trampoline that he jumped on to get that shot :)

Yeah, it's well known that Peter Gabriel had the highest vertical jump of any rock star!
