Just listening to this at the moment. Dave plays all the instruments on this track, goes on for a bit but I think that's the point!

Just watched the entire thing. I like Dave Grohl and always have. I respect him as an artist. But honestly I'm not sure what he was trying to achieve here other than proving to himself that he could do it.

I thought the track started out very strong and it has interesting dynamics all the way through it. But at a certain point I started to lose interest. It just started to seem as if Dave threw together a bunch of unfinished Foo Fighters song ideas into one long piece.

Also, at least for me, a super long rock track such as this suffers without vocals and shall I say a few 'prog' style extended solos on guitar and keys. Dave is extremely talented but he is not what I would call a virtuoso on any instrument.

Overall it is impressive though. He is truly a one man band here. But for me the song's length without vocals/solos turns it into an exercise in self indulgence.

    Just my 2 cents!

I like it, but agree it could use vocals and more soloing.

    Jazz flute wouldn't hurt, either.

This perfectly sums up my opinion of this project as well.

So (once again) can someone tell me why people hate Dave Grohl?

He should can the guitar, singing and anything else and do the one thing he's good at - doing PR. Oh sorry, the drumming.

I think it's mostly for his ubiquitousness, coupled with a perception that the Foo Fighters music is bland corporate rock. Not my sentiments, just summarizing what I've read in other threads like this one:

Ok. Yeah, I get that. I'd agree that many later FF tunes sound like reworked copies of previous FF tunes. But their early albums are great.

Regarding the PR thing, yes it does seem as if Grohl is always everywhere, pushing the 'relevance' of whatever he's doing at the moment. That can get old quickly.

Still, I don't think these things qualify him to actually be hated. Boring at times? Certainly. Hated? I wouldn't go quite that far.

I don't hate DG but find his band boring as all get out. Everything out of them sounds the same to me.

This is freaking awesome. The sound quality, even on the youtube clip, is very good. I have ordered the vinyl. \m/

I could listen to him drum all day. I wish Them Crooked Vultures would put out another album and re-master the first one (which sounds appalling on vinyl).

Mastering. Atrocious. Sounds like it's been squished into a tiny box.

I find Foo Fighters boring after the first two albums. First two albums are very good, and the most recent one isn't too bad but not up there with the first two.

Wasting Light is their best, IMO.

The most interesting thing he has done, to me, post Nirvana was that album guesting all those rock heroes of yore.

Album list - Dynamic Range Database

Gonna check this out and if I like the music I might try the 2lp... The dynamic range tells a different story than you're telling ... Either that or it's mixed completely like trash ... The cd does look like poo though. I wish these record companies or whoever would wake up.

My copy sounds terrible, like it’s squished into a very small, very flat box. Please prove me wrong and try for yourself. Perhaps there was another mastering or something...
