My wife Vickie and I saw this in the theater the other night. One of the Chicago radio film critics has a series where he shows a film once a month, and this summer has been devoted to the films of Robert Zemekis. The only two I've been home to see was Used Cars (still screamingly funny) and this one. It has a soundtrack that would be financially impossible to put together today, with wall-to-wall Beatles songs. The acting is pretty uneven, but Wendie Jo Sperber was hilarious, and Nancy Allen has a scene when she gets into the Beatles' hotel room that had me nearly rolling on the floor, I was laughing so hard.

    Anyone else remember this film?

Great, fun fast film. American Graffiti of Beatlemania.
I had a client who knew Zemekis through school, said everyone knew he was a genius going places.

    And Deezen does indeed Rock

Love this film, a fun homage to American Beatlemania with a great, young cast.

I was there, during scripting, etc. Robert and Bob's office was right next to the office I worked in at Uni. Read each script update, etc. They were very nice guys.

Original working title: "Beatles 4 Ever."

I have the final "Green Cover" shooting script, signed by all actors, main crew, Tami and Alex, Bob & Robert and SS, etc.

Eddie Deezen was recently on Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Collosal Podcast and had great stories especially some from this film...haven't seen this film in years and would love too.

I think Universal has made inquiries to Apple several times, but the music rights would be very, very high. I'm guessing $10 million for the 17 Beatles songs heard in the film, assuming $500K-$700K apiece:

I Wanna Hold Your Hand (1978) - Soundtracks - IMDb

Bear in mind that on Across the Universe, the producers had to pay $10 million just for the publishing rights alone for 33 Beatles songs. And that didn't include the recordings. But I think half that many songs, with the original recordings... that could easily be $10 million for the music involved in the home video rights. Universal is notoriously cheap about this stuff, and they paid a fraction for the songs for the original movie (total budget $2.8 million), and while fans liked the movie, it did not do well at theaters. It's a very clever, funny film, but I think it went over the heads of the mass-market audience.

Love it! I haven’t seen it in years, but vividly remember the scene in the hotel room with the bass and the coffee cup! Hilarious, and something a teenage girl would definitely do if she found herself in her idol’s hotel room!

I'm not sure how this works. How were they able to go from VHS to DVD, but not go from DVD to BluRay?
Do they have to negotiate royalties for each format? And if so, how were they able to afford the conversion from VHS to DVD? (I really don't understand how or when new royalties kick in)

My sister got a chance to touch the back of Brian Epstein's head. She taped up her fingertips for a few days.
