Went to see Santana at Hammersmith Odeon in 74 .
Didn't know who the support act was until they came on.
Carlos must of thought who booked this lot and we've got to follow them.
It was a little known band called Earth Wind & Fire.
Think most people in there would of been happy for them to carry on playing and Santana go home.

I'm not a pot smoker.....but the few occasions i've partook don't begin to match the secondhand high I had after seeing McCartney in 1993.......during Let it Be there was a mushroom cloud of pot smoke.......unreal!

As my big sister points out, these days it's just BO and farts at concerts.......no more marijuana.

1998’s Family Values Tour had Rammstein opening for Limp Bizkit and Korn. Ice Cube was in there too for some reason. Just a terrible lineup.

Went to see "Black Rebel Motorcycle Club" in order to catch their support band the "Brian Jonestown Massacre" at the time I thought it might be the only chance I might get to see them (I'd already seen BRMC). Added to which a guy knew the lead singer Anton. It was a lively half hour set with a lot of heckling from the crowd. I got to meet Anton as my friend chatted to him.
As it was I needn't have worried, The BJM have been back to the UK on numerous occasions since as headliners.

Anyway we didn't get much of the headline act. About three songs in everyone jumped up and down to "Spread Your Love" the fire alarms went off and that was the end of the gig. BRMC returned to Leeds for a free gig later in the year. One of my friends gave his ticket away to a girl who wanted to get into the after gig party so lost his chance.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Wikipedia

"In 2003, a concert in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, had to be cancelled half way through the set, after Leeds City Council officials suspected the 150-year-old floor of Leeds Town Hall might collapse.[2] This led to the band sometimes being referred to as 'the band who broke the floor'"

Santana were on the bill but we went to see the Stranglers.
Don't remember if there was a headline act.
I remember getting it in the neck when the strippers came on.

The Low Anthem and Beach House opening for The National.

I like them all, but I wanted to see The Low Anthem.

This reminds me: when you go to see the opening act, keep
in mind that their set will be short and the stupid crowd will
not shut-up until the main act.

I once saw Stevie Ray Vaughn, at the peak of his talent and popularity in 1989,
take second billing behind Joe Cocker.

I remember thinking, “why is the greatest guitar hero since Jimi Hendrix
opening for this epileptic homeless-looking guy?”

I saw Vaughn as part of a sort of/kind of festival and again opening for Robert Plant. Makes me wonder if he ever toured as headliner.

SRV was never all that popular while alive. None of the albums released in his lifetime charted higher than the 30s in the US.

He opened for more popular acts because they were bigger draws than he was.

Not sure why other artists need to be insulted to aggrandize SRV...

Was Stevie NOT famous then though? I thought his breakout year was '83.

That reminded me of the time my brother treated me to Cheap Trick opening for (of all people) Poison at the wretched, useless and stupid Sprint Center. A good chunk of the audience cleared out after Cheap Trick's set.

Talented, but Badfinger probably had even less "star quality factor x" than Kenny Jones or Ian McLagen.

Ok...I specifically went to see Hootie And The Blowfish open for Toad The Wet Sprocket back in 1995.

They were my cousin's friends from South Carolina and I had heard of the name probably since 1991.

    So yes I went haha!
