A private detective he hired. That character appears in a few episodes in S1.

Pretty good start to S2 (4 eps in so far). The plot follows the template of ever escalating problems - you put out one fire and another one starts. Bateman and Linney are great, but I'm not loving the Charlotte/Wyatt plotline (nor the psycho FBI agent). The other great performer is Julia Garner as Ruth - she's such a sassy little spitfire with a great deal of smarts.

As in last season, Jordana Spiro as Rachel reminds me so much of Roz from Frasier! Anyway, enjoying it so far.

I love the cinematography of this show, like the aerial shots of the coast line and forest when boating and hunting.

    Is Marty a border-line sociopath?

For a nice Jewish girl from NYC, she's excellent at playing a backwater redneck.

I'm finding S2, so far, to be a bit of a slog. It's not terrible or anything, but there seems to be a shift in terms of the focus of the show. Granted, I'm only two episodes in, but the whole 'will the casino bill go through or not' deal is a bit dull. Perhaps things will pick up.

One thing I did notice about this show is the lighting. Everything is so dark. Half of peoples faces are almost always obscured by shadow in any given shot. I realize they want to make this a grim drama, but it wouldn't kill the director to use a bit more light. I mean, this isn't "Se7en" after all.

I noticed this (and last season as well). One benefit is it makes the cameraman's life a lot easier and they can get more done per day, since he doesn't have to pay as much attention to sunlight. just set the exposure low or use a dark filter..

And, as I'm sure you know, she was good on The Americans. She might be the most intriguing character on this show.

I know it's all about makeup, hair, and lighting, but jeez, I can't remember the last show I watched where every single female was not only unattractive, but downright scary ugly.

You’re saying all the women (females) on “Ozark” are scary ugly? I do not agree. They’re no beauties on the show, but not one is ugly.

Two episodes in to the second season and I may be done. It's just bad people doing bad stuff, nothing redeeming at all.

I don't understand your point. Criminals commit crimes. Why should there be anything redeeming about the story? IMO the storyline is how does Marty get away with it.

    Did you like “Breaking Bad”?

Maybe the anti-hero kind of drama isn’t for you?

I'll take a haggard looking Laura Linney any day.

I'm 8 eps in so far and I can tell you that things do pick up, after a fashion. The season's been okay, but not outstanding (regardless of how the final 2 eps pan out).

One thing that bugged me was Jason Bateman's character. He's a great actor and very charismatic but his role in S2 is too passive and lifeless, there is no spark. Maybe his directing/producing duties have impacted his om-screen performance.

No, not really as I don't watch The Americans. I think this is the first time I've seen the actress...
Yep, same here. In fact, Laura Linney should get top billing, because her character dominates proceeding in S2 much more than Bateman's.

Redeeming in the sense that at least some of the characters could be likeable. I'm just finding the subject matter to be a little too close to the bottom.

Yes, but Walt had some noble intentions for his actions in the beginning. I don't really see the Bateman character as an anti-hero, he's just a selfish criminal. It's entertaining, but not really of any quality.

This is the fourth show I’ve seen recently with a similarly deranged FBI agent.

She plays a peripheral role, but when she's on the screen with Matthew Rhys, she's excellent. By the way, you really need to watch The Americans. It's obviously over now, but I think you would enjoy the hell out of this show. It can require patience, but it is so worth it.

I agree, and will add I felt quite a few things take place that I've seen elsewhere. Just glad my son is paying the Netflix bill, when one of their shows is somewhat of a disappointment to me.

Why are you guessing ? This was stated out loud in either this, or the following episode, and more than once !
