great thread this, so many fantastic tables. How I spin my vinyl. TW Acustik AC-3 with SME 3012-R tonearm with SPU atm. Pioneer Exclusive P3 - aka 1979 vintage direct drive table - the best table Pioneer could make and only for Japan. - with Lyra Etna SL cartridge. Technics SL1000mk3 aka SP10mk3 aka 1981 with Thales Simplicity II tonearm and Lyra Atlas SL cartridge. Linn Sondek LP12 with Naim ARO + Linn Troika cartridge.
What is the reason for having multiple tables set-up? Do you play certain genres on certain tables for the best sound? Just curious.
Yea, something like that. the technics is superb for rock n roll, alternative and electronica. Pioneer is a little more forgiving and very flexible with multiple arm wands for different cartridges and the TW Acustik/SME is great with jazz, vocals and a lot of 60's music. The Linn does not get much play, but my wife won't let me sell it as it was my first "real" turntable in the 1985. Variety is the spice of life.
Yeah man, I wasn't judging at all. I was genuinely curious. I sometimes am happy my ear is not as good as others. There is no way I could hear a difference between turntables for specific genres. Yet sometimes, I wish I COULD pick up on the differences.
well, not quite as impressive as the previous offering, but here's my vintage original oracle delphi, upgraded to mkv specs. w/exception of the origin-live dc motor kit, powered by a lab-grade hp power supply. and the second pic is the recently acquired empire 598ii, which works perfectly, and gives the oracle a decent run. in fact, i strongly feel these vintage empires are as good as anything you can find new, up to ~$2-2.5k. even w/their original arms. upgrade the arm for improvement if you want, (easier to do on the unsuspended models), but you will have to spend what you paid for the complete package, to get an arm worth mounting. i believe my daughter will be pleasantly surprised to receive this w/the soon-to-be-mounted grounded anti-static "dust bug" for her birthday. doug s.
It is a beautiful and substantial set of tables, along with all the rest of the amazing gear in that room, some of the best in the world, past and present. Very nice.
Linn LP12, Lingo, Basic LVX, Ortofon 2M Red. I’ll be switching the tonearm for an Ekos II soon and already have a Troika en route to Goldring for a full rebuild. Thorens TD125, SME 3009, Ortofon 2M Blue. Systemdek IIX, Profile II, Nagaoka MP11 Boron. This is a side project that is currently on hold until I repatriate to Canada. I’ve put a custom plinth on it made from solid black walnut with an acrylic top. I’d like to swap the tonearm out eventually, and probably the platter.
my latest purchase a sony tts-8000 japan/uk only model. The platter is damped as standard,a nice touch. Platter edge and controls shinning like new! Original Sony oil filled matt is in great condition. The plinth weighs a ton and is in top nick too. A good clean reveals a mint dust cover. An AT-1010 tonearm will be fitted soon so ive got time to make a panzerholz board for it.
My new realisation of clearer sound is a Luxman PD-131s, SME 3009/II, AT-OC3 (wow!), Project MM/MC Box https://photos.app.goo.gl/izAccFjSN8We4Bza7
My Clearaudio Ovation with Magnify arm and Concerto V2 cartridge. I also use a HRS ADH clamp (850 gr) and the Clearaudio outer limit ring (1500 gr). I have a new tonearm coming next week. I'll post an update once it's installed.
