How would "Here Comes the Sun" have done as a single for The Beatles?*

I'm sitting here listening to the "1+" album by the Beatles and it feels empty without "Here Comes the Sun." I'm not the biggest George fan but he hit it out of the park on Abbey Road and HCTS is his homerun. I know there are all these silly rules with the Beatles and singles and I don't care. So many purposely overlooked songs and HCTS is at the top of the heap of missed opportunities.

So, if "Here Comes the Sun" was an official single at the time of Abbey Road's release, how well would it have done? Another hit for the team or was the time just not right for the Sun? I think it would have soared high in the sky.

Another hit I guess because it is their most streamed song on Spotify.

I think it's the best song on Abbey Road. It would have been a smash.

    “Here Comes the Sun”...
Would have been a #1 huge hit single.

With “The End” as the BSide.

But a double a-side of Something/Here Comes the Sun would get them both out of the way faster!

    - or -
    Something b/w Come Together
Here Comes the Sun b/w Maxwell's Silver Hammer (that would make it the first Beatles single to not feature Lennnon on either song)

One of The Beatles finest songs, it would certainly have been a worldwide No. 1.

Well John & Paul would have been feeling generous giving George an 'a' side, so why not also a 'b' side, I nominate 'Not Guilty'.

    B side Oh Darling

And yes, SUN would have been another number 1 single

  14. Yes I'm certain HCTS would have dominated at #1. I don't think I have ever been a huge fan of Something; I've always liked the other George song much better. And I have never met anyone who didn't like it too...

Number 1 without a shred of doubt. A Here Comes the Sun/Something single would've been one of their classic double-A singles.

Come and Get It could've been a b-side, if Paul had written it yet (?)

Put What's The New Mary Jane on the B side to placate John. The A side would have been massive.

It was released that way in Japan, but "Oh Darling" was the A-side.

    Octopus’s Garden on the B-side

The only Beatle single without a Lennon/McCartney song?

And much later on, "Here Comes The Sun" was an A-side with "Octopuss's Garden." That would have been an interesting combo...

#1, and if released after Abbey Road, say Sept./Oct. '69 it would have given the band occasion to record "Cold Turkey" as the b-side (or double A-side just to make John very happy).

USA #1, if released after Something would not have done as well in the UK, Something/Come Together didn't hit #1 there, neither did Let It Be.
