According to Dave Marsh's Who bio, Townshend hated the Dead's music. He was, however, friendly with Jerry Garcia, who was a huge admirer of Townshend's writing.

Thanks, that's cool--I wonder if the Dead ever covered the Who?

One thing Pete did like, was at that time the Dead weren't confined to a certain set-list and a lot of what they were doing was off the cuff. This was certainly not something his band was doing at the time.

Jerry really liked Pete and I'm sure the feeling was mutual. And Pete was amazed at their joint show at the Coliseum in Oakland in the mid-70's that the Dead did two completely different shows on each day.

I was surprised when I first read that neither show was a sellout, this despite both bands huge followings. I wonder if things would of been different if it was on the east coast?

Cool. I was actually at the show the following night, the 14th. I forget how many shows they did, I'm thinking maybe 5 though. IIRC we had to send the $ in for the shows in advance with no guarantee of even getting a seat and not knowing what show if any we might get. Ended up with crappy behind the stage seats but watched most of the show from elsewhere wandering around MSG, sitting o the steps in various places.

Interesting - my ticket was only $8.50 - "Behind Stage Mezzanine". My ticket is only one color btw (different shades of blue). They charged you an extra $4 for the colors! (or maybe the better seats) :)

I'll try to scan it and post it when I get more time.....

OK here's my ticket to that same show. Different color scheme.

And I totally forgot this but check out the back! An advert for Kids Are Alright. Does yours have this?

Funny enough we may have passed each other on the way in or out through "Tower D"

  23. Really, Pete beats his own record in height here, don't he? Given the angle, it's incredible!
