I think this is different from Watertown, in that the latter was originally housed in a gatefold. In that case, it should indeed be restored, because it's about the artwork being designed for the gatefold format. For an album that always had a single sleeve, I usually prefer that it remain so, even if there are two LPs in the sleeve. Now, whether it comes across as cheap or not will depend on the quality and thickness of the cardboard stock, whether or not the cover is tip-on, the quality of the printing, etc. All IMHO, of course.

  2. I'm just selecting some music for a funeral service; does anyone think "One For The Road" might be too downbeat for 'exit' music?

Agreed. IIRC MoFi got rather lackadaisical in their quality of album covers/jackets several years ago. Sinatra & Strings and Deans's This Time I'm Swingin'! come to mind.

FYI, the new John Lennon Imagine 2 LP set is housed in a single sleeve, non-gatefold jacket. It’s flimsy and cheap looking.

It’s also overpriced. But not as bad as this. At least you get bonus material.

I would wait for "respected" reviews. But one should own both mono and stereo. Different as night and day.

I have an old stereo lp, the one with 10 songs. Forgot to mention that haha. Ok thanks. Guess I will buy a mono off discogs and wait on this new one. Just getting into some of this old Frank music. Never cared about it before but dang some of this is really amazing work.

yeah LOL. Problem is I'm listening to what I gather are his depressing albums....Wee Small Hours/Sings For Only The Lonely/All Alone/and No One Cares.....kinda worried about myself at this point haha

For anybody who may not know this (and with apologies to those who do), I'll just put out the requisite reminder:
The mono and stereo editions are not merely different mixes, but are different recordings, simultaneously made, with different mics used on each recording, with only the vocal mic being split to both the mono and stereo tape machines. The fact that roughly ten mics were used on the mono mix, while only three were used on the stereo recording, means that the perspectives are very, very different on the two recordings.

If you're bored but curious, bring your laptop into the bathroom, and have a gander at this page: Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely - 1958 Differences between mono and stereo recordings (WIth apologies to Mr. Fellini.)

I’m not that familiar with the album, I’m looking forward to comparing the mono & stereo.

In all seriousness. $36 is ridiculous for this major label release. If it was a boutique label, I would expect it. But I’m sure it will settle around $25 in the next few months.
If the reviews are good I might get it but I already have several good versions of this album.
If they had done it at 45 rpm I would have been more impressed.
I’m done ranting about price. Now waiting for the reviews.

Edit : down to $32 now so there is hope

I cannot for the life of me find a brick and mortar store near me that will carry this release. Off to Amazon I go!
