    A great album imo.
Wiki says released in 91, that does not seem right to me.

    Am I wrong?

    Thanks.

Saw him open for Tom Petty in 1991 for the ITGWO tour, great double bill.

I was very fortunate to see Chris play live twice in Melbourne Australia
He was very much loved here

You were not in wrong in judging how great that album is. A very good album.
Once or twice when playing some songs from it, other people who have never heard it before(upon hearing it for the first time) ask for specific artist to follow it on their own.

The very definition of wide screen dust bowl Americana. Subsequent albums skew more to the blues perhaps but all are exceptional . The best ever KRAFTWERK cover is his take of "THE MODEL" to be found on the "DIRT FLOOR" album.
Yes. A lot of love in Oz for Chris.
His daughter Trixie also knocks out a great tune.

Saw that too, in L.A. Chris just torched the place. Unbelievable intensity.

Just wanted to also mention that the rest of his catalog is worth investigating, no clunkers in the bunch. Dirt Floor, Live at Martyrs, Red House...

Definitely. Just don't expect them to sound anything like LwtL. Terra Incognita was something of a compromise sonically after the noisefest Din of Ecstasy, so has some traces of LwtL, but he really left the "mainstream" behind very swiftly.

Yeah, Din of Ecstasy certainly in a fine example of that!

I found it fascinating how in his later years the albums and tours were exercises in stripping everything away to the bare bones. I saw him a couple of times in the years before he died playing a small venue in London, The Borderline, just resonator, banjo, stomp box. Mesmerising. A shame they never finished the biopic that was in development for years. It was the least he deserved.

From the artwork/lettering to Daniel Lanois name-dropping Chris and his debut circa Achtung Baby, yes that's very much 1991 to me.

Saw him live in 1994 in a small coffeehouse assuming it would be like LwtL. Ended up being loud, electric and almost punkish. Was about a year before Din of Ecstasy came out so I don't think anyone was expecting it. He talked about getting back to his "roots" in NYC and kept on playing with his back to the audience. Absolutely stunning performance and made me a fan for life.

"Living With the Law" was a great debut but I actually think "Reiter In" may be my favorite which is a shame since it was his last. Good mix of tunes and it's clear he never compromised. Anyone who can cover The Stooges, Willie Dixon, The Flaming Lips, and Gary Numan seamlessly with his own songs is all right in my book.

As for Trixie, the first time I heard her sing was on a European bonus track for Dirt Floor. Certainly not her best work but still brings a smile every time I hear it:

That was my introduction to Whitley, too. Went out the next morning to get the CD, but couldn't find it anywhere in town (Nashville) because so many other people did the same thing that they'd sold out all over town.

Don't forget this one from 2006, complete with covers of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" ,"Are Friends Electric?", "I'm In Love With A German Film Star" and "Bring It On Home" , a monster of an album done just before he died. It's haunted, defiant and rocks it's butt off. Also contains the spine tingling "Mountain Side" which is one of the best things he ever did. Great artist, hard to go wrong with him.

Now you have me aching for some archive releases. :) He was taken away far too young.
