So 'hot seller' would be what....12 copies?

That would not work out well, trust me.

$5.50 sounded good for a very clean copy.

I mastered Stranger In Town as well. A money losing venture.

Little doodles and stuff on the boxes. Many times. People get bored I guess and draw on the stuff!

Steve, does the original Columbia CD of the Stones' Sticky Fingers sound just like the master tape? I find it's the best mastering of this album on CD even though it's a little light on the bottom end.

    Unflinching delivery of actual opinion.
I can hear the screams from the faithful already.
No matter, I love my RL Led Zep II's
I think it's a great record, a great mastering, and a great play.
    And I like it LOUD

    This begs the question:

Steve, please, what do you think is the best vinyl version of Sticky Fingers?

My opinion, the German press of the original Doug Sax mastered job, the A3/B3 stampers with T.M.L. written in the deadwax.

My original British cut is the best. The first cutting.

What about the Rhino and Sundazed vinyl reissues? Any good?
    Analog or digital?

I'm thinking about getting them, but it's the "burned too often by digital vinyl that doesn't sound particularly good" problem.

Not really a piece of mastering equipment, but, I assume you know your way around one. Am I asking too much of 1176LN by trying to only limit 1dB? Is too fast? Too broad? Too imprecise?

The LA-2A has no problem limiting 1dB.

Maybe I’m relying too much on the input knob and need to use it and the output knob for finer tuning?

    That's the one.
    Same stampers, German vinyl.
I have a couple of British cuts too, the german is a little quieter and fuller. I'm guessing because of the better quality vinyl formulation.

Well, don't mistake me, I like the sound of Stax/Volt from the 1960s; fat, tubby, powerful. Most releases try and thin out the sound or add a bunch of top end to find some treble at the expense of voices, etc.

I have some digital OTIS and some of them use mono, some stereo, some Tom Dowd (dreadful) redubs in mono or stereo, some straight from Stax with no Tom Dowd re-eqing. It's not easy to find one CD that has them all good. You need everything. But the Bill Inglot STAX/VOLT CD box set is everyone's best best to get the most out of the label. Has a few goofs but for the most part it nails it.

That's the reason I seldom use my 1176. It's meant to be pushed. Not used in a subtle way, sadly. It actually only works pushed. The LA2a works just by being on!

    Hi Steve,
I had asked about "The Collection An Adventure in Sound" Quad SACD in post 864. I know there was a lot of speculation when it came out. I don't think there was any definitive answer as to the possibility of that release being a sampler for upcoming quad projects. Thanks very much.

Thank you, sir! That’s what I thought, but, didn’t want to rule out user error.

Check your 1176 owner's manual. There are a LOT of adjustments that can be made to suit you, almost 85% more than on the LA2a.
