I was driving home today listening to Great Big Sea, and this song came on from their album "Turn." Wow, but it made me feel nice inside. Every now and again I'll find a song that is so gorgeous that it gives me goosebumps, but of those songs, this may be the most beautiful melody I've ever heard. So what else is out there? What songs raise you up and make you feel simply happy inside?

Yeah, I agree, this is a great song. Not completely ubiquitous, either. :righton:

Makes me feel more sad than happy but Skeeter Davis' The End of The World is one of my favorite melodies.

Another song with a great melody that is more sorrowful than sad is "Long Long Time" by Linda Ronstadt.

    Without You"

Written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger, the song was released on their album "No Dice" on Nov 9, 1970.

Harry Nilsson covered it on his album Nilsson Schmilsson, released on Oct 11, 1971.
His single hit #1 for four weeks, from Feb 13 to Mar 11, 1972.

I grew up hearing Nilsson’s version on the radio...
The melody is amazing to me, and paired with his vocals...
A slice of pure pop heaven!!!

"Wichita Lineman" This is quite possibly my favorite song ever. Glen Campbell's is the definitive version for me.
    "Cherish" by The Association.
    "Morning Glory" by Tim Buckley

Here's a melody that I like very much. The song is called Snart Skiner Poseidon and the artist is Joel Alme. The song is actually a remake of another song of his called A Young Summer's Youth. Here are the translated lyrics to Snart Skiner Poseidon:

As we walk through the city across bridges and squares
With the smell of salt from the sea we remember joy and sorrow
And we remember the first time when the angels sang
How the spring sun warmed and winter were forgotten

Oh ... when we throw our empty glasses
Is there always someone with the heart left
Born from sea and sky, we are left
Because we never forget this city

We saw how you stopped, we saw how you ran
With tears on the cheek and heart on fire
With the longing in your chest, you stood there and said,
"Soon, Poseidon and Blåvit are left shining"

Oh ... when we throw our empty glasses
Is there always someone with the heart left
Born from sea and sky, we are left
Because we never forget the angels

Of all things in music I love, I'm a real sucker for a great melody- especially if it is bathed in a swirl of tight harmonies. . .
With that said, may I present Teenage Fanclub

Witchita is a great choice. One of my favorite songs ever, and yes, Glen did it best- even better than Jimmy Webb who I saw perform it live just last year.
