He's reissuing Low in High School in December as a double LP with bonus tracks and an alternate cover (one clear LP and one magenta LP as well).

I love Moz's cover of "Moon River."

The Lemonheads' Varshons is not horrible. I'd say that it's pretty darn great.

  5. I imagine that could be pretty darn good if he played it straight.

That's a pretty good one. "Yesterlove" is a beauty, and "Layin Up With Linda" hysterical.
Looks like he's releasing a Varsions 2 in the new year.

And on a related note, I also quite like Juliana Hatfield's album of Olivia Newton-John covers.

Is Back on the Chain Gang the only song by another artist that both Morrissey and Johnny Marr have played since the split?

I have to say, Morrissey sounds fantastic but his band is pretty duff.

Haven't listened to "Chain Gang" yet, but however it is, reading this quote about Chrissie made the whole thing worthwhile. The Moz wit is still intact. "Chrissie is the funniest person in the world, yet she has absolutely no sense of humor. We have been in many absurd situations – all her fault, of course. I know she’d marry me tomorrow, but she’s already had 11 husbands and she’s always being spotted digging in the garden at midnight.”

Admittedly, I'm a much bigger Smiths' fan than a Morrissey fan, but I do like a lot of his solo stuff. That cover of Chain Gang was kinda cool. I like how the band basically played the song as a note-for-note cover, and Moz used the same inflections Chrissy used, but it sounded like a Morrissey tune.

I'm sure there are people on here who would use all the same points I used why I like it, to say why they hated it. But, meh...

I don't know a single one of these songs...so basically, a brand-new Morrissey album to enjoy!

Gary Puckett & the Union Gap cover....didn’t see that one coming! Mild interest in this tracklisting is immediately quashed by the thought of what Morrissey’s band of hamfisted bodgers will do to the songs - based on “Chain Gang”, it won’t be pretty.

I love this tracklist. It could have been a totally obvious selection of songs by Bowie, Lou Reed, NY Dolls, etc.

An obscure Dionne Warwick Bacharach/David choice, too. And I am curious what "Lady Willpower" will sound like. :)

...which coincides with a significant chunk of his European audience deserting him; funny, that.

Kinda weird, given Morrissey's politics these days, that he's choosing to to do this song and, even more unlikely, a Phil Ochs song, that's Phil 'The Singing Socialist' Ochs. What is he trying to tell us?
