Just a handful, but they've proved remarkable discoveries. First, Heron Oblivion, already mentioned here, and second, three bands whose somewhat limited discographies have been difficult to collect - at least at reasonable prices - though I now have most and they are prized: the Vaselines, the Wipers, and the Raincoats. I'm sure a few know immediately where these came from! I think sampling entries on Cobain's 50-list (mostly on utube) was about the most concentrated fun I've yet had on this site; thanks again, BeatlesBop!

Most of my new discoveries come from plunging down Amazon rabbitholes on the 'people who liked/bought this item also...' function. Additionally, though Marcus and Christgau can drive me batty, their works have emerged as my most valuable signposts to new stuff of late; especially Christgau's album guides by decade. As a side note - tonight, when I feel more lost and alienated in my own country than I ever imagined possible, SHF and these familiar discussions are providing a therapeutic source of comfort and diversion./KAT

 

Checked it out due to your mention. I really like it. Comments section on YouTube for his music is pretty funny, too.

I can't claim I "discovered" them through the SHF because I already knew who they were, but threads here sparked my interest in Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.


Odd that those are the 2 who come to mind given the board's orientation toward classic rock, but it's true. I saw threads that referred to specific songs, checked out those songs, liked 'em and went from there.

Probably others I got into after hearing about 'em here, but those 2 come to mind first...

You can get The Wipers' albums from Zeno Records, Greg Sage's record label, for a reasonable cost. CDs are cheaper than vinyl though, so I guess it would depend on what format you want.

I'm new so I haven't had much discovery time. I did hear a track by a band called Into Paradise, but haven't listened to anything else from them yet.

 

This is a band I was not familiar with but tried it out based on comments here. I can't say that I loved it, and I tried some other recommendations that didn't really click with me. However, I don't regret having bought some unknown (to me) artists, they surely need the dough, and it might be something I'll grow into later.

 

About fifty years late to the party on these guys. Oh well, one thing good about ignorance, it can be cured. I'm much better now.

I discovered the real Beatles. I’d only ever known about the afterthought stereo mixes. It was only when I joined the forum that I found out that the mono mixes are the true sound of the band and that the stereo mixes are not their true sound.
