Great tune, but the title 0f the thread asks for obscure songs. As you even pointed out in your post, this was a Top 20 radio hit, as well as reaching #54 in Canada and #52 in the U.K. That hardly makes it obscure. See the post about five back from yours for a better example of a tune that fits the bill from Soul Asylum.

I consider it obscure because, aside from alternative radio for about a month in 94 or 95 this song has been completely erased from radio's memory. You actually have to actively seek this song out to hear it. It's obscure as far as most top 100 songs ever get.

Maybe so, but the fact it was a hit, as well as got radio airplay in the first place, pretty much negates it being referred to as "Obscure". That would be a song that probably didn't get any airplay, or never reached hit status, even if it was released as a single.

Your other choices have been solid, though.

Picked the single up back in 94 because 'Sascha' KMFDM did a mix on it.
No clue if it's parent album is any good or not.

    Wagon - Burden Back

Folk/country rock band from St. Louis/Missouri.
They emerged in 1996 with "No Kinder Room", produced by Lloyd Maines and released on HighTone; this album was followed by "Anniversary", released in 1997 on the German label Glitterhouse.
"Burden Back" is a track from their final album "Beauty Angel Queen", released in 1999, once again on Glitterhouse.

    Simon Bonney - Ravenswood

Simon Bonney, the Australian leader of Crime & The City Solution, released his wonderful solo debut album "Forever" on Mute Records in 1992. A stripped-down, low-key, mystic, modest and gentle affair.
"Ravenswood" is one of the best tracks from this album. Great bunch of musicians on this track: J.D. Foster on guitar, Jon Dee Graham on lap steel, and Carla Bozulich with the backing vocals.

Check out the band The Lost, Luke Janklow's prior band, before Darlahood, also signed to major label and opened for some big-ish acts, but never broke through:

A track from "Warm Springs Nights", the first album Joel R.L. Phelps released after leaving the Seattle post-punk band Silkworm.
He formed the Downer Trio with bassist Robert Mercer and drummer William Herzog.
"Warm Springs Nights" was released on the defunct Seattle/Washington-based label El Recordo Records in 1995.
