...and that you’ve never heard a bad version of.

The 2 that first came to my mind and were the impetus for me posing the question were:

    Little Girl Blue

How Long Has This Been Going On

Harlem Nocturne...with a qualifier. Lyrics were added at some point, and I hate those versions, but the instrumental version, as written and intended by Earl Hagen and Dick Rogers, has been done many times and I love every version I've heard.

I think my favorite version is that by Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson.

"Me About You" by songwriters Bonner and Gordon...I've heard versions by the Mojo Men, Jackie DeShannon, The Turtles...I haven't decided which I like best. Actually like them all. Here's the version by Orpheus, very slow compared to the others.

I don't know that I've heard a bad version of Pancho and Lefty. I don't claim to have heard them all, though.

My apologies; it should have been mentioned in the Thread Title instead of the body of my post... the point of the thread, the question posed is primarily about songs that are so strong YOU'VE NEVER HEARD A BAD VERSION OF. If it was simply a Songs That Have Often Been Recorded thread that would be pretty weak; not worthy of my time or yours. That would be 1 step beyond the pointless, to my mind threads asking; "Best" or "Greatest".

Pancho and Lefty is a brilliantly crafted TVZ song. I also; have never heard a bad version of it, of those I've heard, although of those that I have heard, I'd have to say none better that of Townes'... any of his versions.

Totally agree. And IMO all his stuff is best when it's just him and his guitar. Now I'm going to have to listen to Live at the Old Quarter for the 1,000th time (not complaining).

Let's see the links for all these "bad" versions of White Christmas. Just because YOU say the version is bad, don't make it so. No, I don't remember any bad versions of White Christmas, but I'm up for a good laugh if you got links! Then again, I don't go looking for bad versions of songs either.

  21. all along the freakin' watchtower, already.

don't get me wrong, I've never heard a bad version of that tune.

  22. Oh I should retract my statement. I saw the thread title

but I overlooked this addendum in the first post "...and that you’ve never heard a bad version of."
Sorry... my bad. They are all stinkers. (after hearing the song about a bazillion times)

The Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Bo Diddley and Eddie Cochran catalogs. I'm sure someone will point out bad versions that I've missed but I don't remember any.
