Yes Moore did look young in LALD. Connery - I've never seen anyone age fast as he did when playing Bond. I often wonder however - how the franchise would have gone if Moore would have been available? In one of the documentaries, they said HE was the first choice!! Never Say Never Again - I know the backstory about it - reboot of Thunderball, the "rights" to the story, not an EON "franchise" release. Connery was in it, put the damn thing in future box sets. Outside of import pressings, the price for this movie is ridiculous, and the picture quality is ridiculous. On the bonus disc in the Black "Complete" box, things must have been heated when this came out. There is a clip of Connery on Carson where you could sense and smell is venom towards Cubby.

I watched the Collection when Encore aired the movies in September. Nice re-introduction to the Franchise.

Because of this thread I purchased the complete box set. Am watching at a leisurely pace. I think From Russia With Love may be the best of the Bond films, certainly the best of the Connery films. It's pretty serious and a little dark. Goldfinger is where it all came together. Watching it again I was struck by how confident a film it is. Having been down this road twice, the filmmakers knew what worked & every second of this film is dynamite.

Just watched Thunderball for the first time in about thirty years. I was surprised by how unengaged I was. Connery was great. He was in shape & looked the part. Thunderball has, arguably, the most beautiful trio of "Bond girls" ever. Luciana Paulzzi as Fiona was breathtaking. She was also a good, confident villain. Claudine Auger as Domino is amazing but, alas, was really just window dressing. Her character was nothing more than a damsel in distress to be rescued by Bond. The biggest surprise was Martine Beswick as Paula. She was Bonds "co-worker" and he treated her with respect as an equal. Surprising for 1965.

Largo should have just shot Bond the first of fifty opportunities he had. Uninteresting bad guy. Also, who wants to be referred to as Number two? Kept reminding me of Austin Powers.

And the underwater scenes, some of which made up the entire climax of the film, were, by their nature, slow. Deathly slow. And, aside from Largo's shock of white hair, it was impossible to identify individual characters underwater.

Although You Only Live Twice and Diamonds Are Forever had their problems, they were fun and engaging. Thunderball, IMO, is the weakest of the Connery films.

May I ask (obviously I'm late to this thread) if there's a POV as to which CD soundtrack of For Your Eyes Only is "best sounding" ?

    from Discogs
Bill Conti - For Your Eyes Only (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
    Code:

For Your Eyes Only (Original MGM Motion Picture Soundtrack) ‎(CD, Album, Dlx, RE) Rykodisc RCD 10751 US 2000

For Your Eyes Only (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) ‎(CD, Album, RE, RM) Capitol Records, Capitol Records 72435-41449-2-9, 7243 5 41449 29 Europe 2003

For Your Eyes Only (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) ‎(CD, Album) Rykodisc VACK3031 Japan Unknown
Is there opinion/consensus if the 2000 vs 2003 release is same/different/better?

    Any guidance greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Recently started my own YouTube channel, and for my first "ranking" video I thought I'd tackle the Bond films, so here's my least to most favourites, certain selections guaranteed to annoy some people, but go easy on me folks! ;)

Good question. There’s a dedicated thread to James Bond soundtracks at Help with collecting James Bond 007 soundtracks . Give it a try.

    Cheers.

Watched your whole video. My top 5 do not even make your top 10. And your number 3 is my worst!

We will watch Specter for the first time on Christmas Eve. I noticed you said Blofeld is in it.
    Huh?
Last night I watched For Your Eyes Only where Blofeld died in the opening.
Sorry, but if you fall a hundred feet down into cement or whatever, you are dead.

Of course Bond was shot by a high power rifle so hard that it knocked him off a two hundred foot bridge head first.
He should have been dead too. My dislike of Skyfall started right from the start.

So with Blofeld being in Specter things are not looking good already.

Tease! We need to see your list... ;)

They rebooted the series with Casino Royale which opened a lot of options back up.

  9. I watched Goldeneye on Amazon prime this weekend. It really is a taut, well-paced Bond movie. It never drags and is always fun to watch. The henchwoman who gets off sexually killing people was a hoot.

That is cheating. We all saw Blofeld die, You cannot change history. Who do they think they are, Ridley Scott!

My list is on Page 6.

My wife and I just watched a Mad Men episode that used both the theme from You Only Live Twice and the Herb Alpert Casino Royale theme. I mentioned that it was interesting that they used two "Bond" songs in one episode. My wife countered that Casino Royale is not a Bond song.

What say ye? Is Casino Royale or, for that matter, The Look Of Love a "Bond" song?

Nope. If those are Bond songs then CR '67 is a Bond movie. And CR '67 is more of an Austin Powers movie than it is a Bond movie.

I think the best James Bond film is Dr. No (1962), an innovative brilliant work, almost tied with From Russia With Love (1963).
Separately or together, they're two of the best films ever made in England.
Of the two, From Russia With Love is my favorite,

    1 - Dr. No
2 - From Russia With Love
    3 - On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    4 - Thunderball
    5 - Goldfinger

    The secondary films:

6 - For Your Eyes Only
7 - Man With the Golden Gun
    8 - The Living Daylights
    9 - License to Kill
    10 - Goldeneye

    The rest aren't worth discussing.
If I were to choose based on soundtracks alone the order would be different.
I think Guy Hamilton and John Glen were poor directors and bad choices for the Bond franchise.
The best scripts were by Richard Maibaum, the worst were Michael J. Wilson's rewrites of Maibaum.
All the Bond actors -- Lazenby, Moore, Brosnan -- were excellent in the role, with Connery being the only one to nail it.

They're so PC they're going to date badly and faster than the other Bond films.
They're so damn PC they're unwatchable now.

Daniel Clueless disgusts me. His Bond films disgust me.

No it is just that I have never seen it. I was saving it for when my wife's brother comes to visit, which is every xmas (atheist spelling). We always watch a bond movie then. Of course he has already seen it and liked it more than Skyfall, which we both disliked. So he is running against popular opinion that puts Specter at the bottom of most Craig list.

I've opened the Glenlivet and am off to watch my two faves, Thunderball and You Only Live Twice.

  25. The Daniel Craig Bonds are something of a reboot so Blofeld manages to make an appearance, yes.
