A lot of us have dedicated CD players. A lot of use universal players. I'm curious about the ratio.

This is about the player you use the most for playing CDs. (And not the player you use for DVDs, BRs, etc. if it's different.)

    Things to consider when voting:
    • SACDs are included as a dedicated player. A machine that plays CDs and SACDs but can't play DVDs, BRs, etc. is a dedicated CD player for this thread's purpose.
    • If you have a dedicated CD player but watch movies on a universal player, then please vote for dedicated player.
    • If you have one universal player for CDs and another universal player for movies, please vote for universal.

Dedicated CD play that only play redbook (sadly, but what can you do), but it also functions as a DAC for my streamer.

Main CD player is CD only, a Leema Stream from 2008.

Marantz CD5003. It is mostly used as transport to feed Schiit Gungnir Mult-Bit DAC. When I listen via the headphone out, it has a very warm, smooth signature - not quite immediate level of detail that I prefer, but certainly not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

Dedicated, but no SACD capabilities; don't need them, don't want them. I wouldn't buy them even if the player could read them.

For the main player dedicated, Marantz CD6006. Probably 75% of my music listening is through this unit. As others have mentioned, I have another player a Sony universal (cd, SACD, DVD-A) for the minority of my discs and movies or concert DVDs.

My main CD player is an Oppo 103 universal. However, I have a Vanity HD card installed in it, and I ONLY use it as a transport for my PS Audio Direct Stream DAC. It's great having something which plays every single format I care about and which also sounds amazing with every type of media.

Up until I discovered that I could have a two-box SACD player solution, I always had a single box SACD player. But with the Vanity card installed in my Oppo, I can even play SACDs natively as DSD on my DAC.

I love this solution because it both sounds amazing, and because I don't have a very expensive door stop when my transport dies, like happened with my Sony SCD-1.

JVC XL-R5010BK CD recorder, purchased refurbished on ebay in 2004, for $162. I quit burning CDs with it when I got a Tascam DA-3000, but it's still my CD player. A nice feature is the ability to load three CDs for continuous playback. The most important thing is sound quality. It sounds great to me.

I have a Yamaha DVD-A/SACD player as my main CD player in the living room, and a Denon DVD-1920 with the same capabilities as my main CD player in my office. Both thrift finds - HDMI enabled "Universal" DVD players - the last of their breed. I used Sony Blu-Ray players for Blu-ray audio.

Oppo 105D for everything. I did have a lovely Marantz 8005 for CD/SACD as well but couldn’t justify having both when money was a bit short. It does everything, including ripping SACDs and streaming Tidal. The app is really cool, too. I save wear and tear on the transport by using an attached HD full of music files.
