"Into the Spider-Verse" is an animated Spider-Man movie - it's not out yet.

But yeah, the rest are more obscure. I don't think those picks will reflect the more mainstream awards to come...

One thing that seems pretty certain is Roma will win most or all of the critics’ best-picture awards to come. Alfonso Cuarón is a critics’ darling (Children of Men, Gravity), and by all accounts he’s topped his earlier films. I saw some reviews putting Roma up in Satyajit Ray territory.

Methinks there's a zero percent chance it wins Oscars BP, though. Spanish-language movie shot in black and white isn't exactly the Academy's wheelhouse.

It's been submitted under Foreign Language Film - that doesn't mean it can't get BP love, but I'll be semi-surprised if it's even nominated for BP, much less wins...

Yep, Roma for the critics and Green Book for the plebeians... ;)

And Roma is a Netflix film. There are lots of people in the industry who have a knee-jerk bias against the very brand name.

I don't get the sense "Green Book" is a slamdunk winner across the board.

I'd be really surprised if it ran the table. It's not gotten uniformly great reviews and there's a lot of competition...

I’m not even sure I’ll be seeing it yet. Maybe if something really good comes out (hoping for The Favourite sometime soon) I’ll make Green Book my second film.

Yeah, I'm unenthused about "Book" as well. I'll see it - AMC A-List makes it "free" - but it just doesn't scream "must see" to me.

Unless something else dazzles me, I'll want "Star Is Born" to take the big awards - partly because I thought it was a good movie, but mainly for other reasons! :D

I might have an inkling about those reasons...

Btw, if I had A-List I’d be all over Green Book. You’re talking to a guy who sees two, maybe four movies every month. Give me a plan that provides up to 12 opportunities to go and I’m there for the upcoming Oscar winner! ;)

Don't sleep on Green Book. may not be everyone's taste in subject matter but the film is all around excellent. the two actors are excellent. thinking many Oscar noms for this one.

    Added to my list.

    Roma - Limited Nov 21 - Streaming Dec 14 (Netflix) - 99% on RT.

The most personal project to date from Academy Award (R)-winning director and writer Alfonso Cuarón (Gravity, Children of Men, Y Tu Mama Tambien), ROMA follows Cleo (Yalitza Aparicio), a young domestic worker for a family in the middle-class neighborhood of Roma in Mexico City. Delivering an artful love letter to the women who raised him, Cuarón draws on his own childhood to create a vivid and emotional portrait of domestic strife and social hierarchy amidst political turmoil of the 1970s. Cuarón's first project since the groundbreaking Gravity in 2013, ROMA will be available in theaters and on Netflix later this year.

Green Book - released Nov 21. 82% critics on RT

When Tony Lip (Mortensen), a bouncer from an Italian-American neighborhood in the Bronx, is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Ali), a world-class Black pianist, on a concert tour from Manhattan to the Deep South, they must rely on "The Green Book" to guide them to the few establishments that were then safe for African-Americans. Confronted with racism, danger-as well as unexpected humanity and humor-they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.

Yes - Bradley Cooper is dreamy!

I'm gonna see Gaga live before long - debating whether I should bring an Oscar replica to give to her! :D

I'll definitely see it - I just haven't gotten around to it. Maybe later this week, maybe next week!

Why don't you get A-List? Your location says South FL, so you have AMCs, right?

For Animated flick? Strong chance of nomination, less for win - I think the money will be on "Incredibles 2"...

Can't judge that one yet - Incredibles 2 has at least three years before it might show up on Freeform on a Sunday afternoon...and now with Disney's holding onto their properties for their own streaming service, who knows.

Because while there might be 12 movies I want to see in December, in February I’ll be lucky if there’s one.

My comments aren't dependent on my opinion of "Isle" or "Incredibles 2" - I liked both but thought neither was great.

I just think that it's tough to beat the Pixar juggernaut - at least when they put out a successful movie.

94% on RT and it made more than $600 million in the US.

Only way "I2" doesn't win is if there's a backlash to its success!

Still worth it. Yeah, you might be mad you paid $20 for that one Feb movie, but you'll have paid $1.67 each for those December movies.

And A-List frees you up to take cinematic chances. There might be one Feb movie you'd see under normal circumstances but since A-List makes movies "free", you see flicks you otherwise would've skipped.

As long as you see 24 movies a year, you've paid for it...

Never heard of Roma - reviews look great. Will definitely check this out on Netflix next week.

I would recommend Green Book - very entertaining movie. Not exactly what I was expecting. Something I am confused they are not at all mentioning in the promotion of it is that it really could be considered a Christmas movie. There aren't really any out this year so it seems like a good plus for seeing it in the theaters now (not for kids though - take them to the Grinch).

I've been seeing previews for the Spider-Man animated movie for a while now, and it actually looks very good.
