I don't know but that is the most badass rock bass tone ever.

At first I was convinced he was using his Hagstrom 8 string bass, but later on I learned it was an effect+ distortion. Indeed the most badass tone ever!

    Useful maybe....
A lot of distortion, fret noise/pick noise....Amazing it never stood out on the track.
    Isolated bass

sounds out of tune to me, kinda ruins the track.

It’s bass through a Leslie rotating speaker.

I can't think of anything that could ruin that track, it's pretty close to rock perfection.

I've always thought the bass on Led Zeppelin II sounded killer. Somewhere between James Jamerson & The Ox.

I know it's supposed to be a Leslie but to me it just sounds like an Acoustic 360 - and that's what he was using live at the time.

I used to have one when I was a teenager and could get a similar sound out of it...just couldn't play anywhere near as great unfortunately.

An absolutely fantastic, pulverizing murderous bass tone! Those chords he plays during the verses sound absolutely HUGE and I've always loved listening to it. I think it's just a basic two note 5th chord that slides up with an open A ringing out underneath. Marvelous! The bass lines all over Zep II are pure genius. The slow subdued blues jam in the middle of Lemon Song...wow, jaw dropping...

You’d be surprised how many rock songs have something even slightly outta tune. I’ll take this so-called outta tune bass, because it’s got major FEEL :)

Doesn't sound out of tune to me. But I'm a drummer, what do I know? That's definitely a different Page solo in the break though.

I absolutely live for that one little pause between the end end of the guitar solo and the verse kicking back in.

I thought some of the latter parts was guitar and not bass. Thanks for the upload!

ive always had a hard time listening to it. it all wobbly and stands out, and then the guitar solo is really bad. like a drunk hitting random notes.
shame as i really like the first few Led Zep albums

You know what I really like about this song besides the main riff is Bonham's triplets on the hi-hat that he does quite a lot, but when I see the song covered, drummers never play with his nuance.

I agree, I've loved that guitar break from the first moment I heard it. Dissing it is like being too fastidious by half. If I want Steve Howe, I'll listen to Steve Howe.
