    I don’t think we ever heard anything definitive. It’s above my pay grade but I’d point you to an expert on this material giving his thoughts in response to the mastering engineer’s request for input; seems like tape copies from around the globe with some good needledrops The Mamas & The Papas: Complete Singles - 50th Anniversary Collection - 2 CD Set (Real Gone Music)*

    I have your DCC remaster of Hotel California. That record, particularly the title track opening including the drums, has always sounded a little soft or slightly out of focus to me no matter the gear I’ve used. Is it just me?

    @Steve -

    What is your favorite version of Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon?

    I'll take this one.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again; there is no such thing as a poorly mastered Pink Floyd disc.

    Isn't the redbook layer of the SACD poorly mastered? I've never heard it myself, but I've read many posts where people have condemned it.

    The red book layer is the only bad version out there.

    That's okay, it's easily forgotten when Japan for the world black face Harvest issues are relatively common. I was lucky enough to acquire one at used bin prices ages ago. I've heard four or five common masterings of Dark Side and none of them are bad except the one.

    I drive a Jeep with the top and doors off whenever I can, so I need all the loudness I can get! :agree:

    Seriously, though, an interesting tidbit. Thanks for the reply.

    When my Mustang top is down it seems to actually help the sound in there. I have this "Shaker 1000" system in the trunk that turns the entire car into a boombox. I feel like a teen.

    Will you also be mastering albums for SACD anytime soon?

    The quad version on Blu-ray isn't mastered very well either...

    So apart from the redbook layer on the SACD and the quad mix on the Immersion BluRay, there are no bad sounding Pink Floyd discs.

    (This is going to be a full blown Monty Python homage, isn't it?)

    What's wrong with the quad mix mastering?

    I used this EQ setting for the first Mamas & Papas album and it works very well. Thanks for mentioning it.

    I just think it could be improved greatly. I am glad to have it, and the mix is amazing, but I would like to hear it remastered with more effort and rereleased. Possibly on SACD.
