Yeah...they were also "set to launch in the US in 2018" as well, but that never happened. Cautiously optimistic.
It’s real and it’s fabulous. The technology to offer in the US may be overshadowed by the legal hoops that must be jumped through. Qobuz exists to make a profit. They’re working 24/7 towards this end.
I read from someone at Qobuz: "Our entry into the US market is imminent, but we can not give you a specific date."
Quobuz had a link up (https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/shop) for a few days to the US store where US residents could sign up for the Studio monthly plan: free for the first month then billed to your credit card. This was middle of November. I guess they decided they had enough US customers for the beta test after a few days and now that link redirects. So: I now subscribe to both Tidal and Quobuz. It happens that both services work with my preferred player Audirvana+ so I am set for a while. I may drop my Tidal subscription and just stay with Quobuz. There is more interesting content on Quobuz for me than Tidal. Roon users will not be happy that Quobuz does not integrate with Roon yet while Tidal does.
For all iOS users: This week Qobuz released a new app update and since then gapless playback doesn't work anymore.
When you turned off the automatic updates, you have a choice. But once you ran the update there is no way back.
Why not? Qobuz - Unlimited music and downloading in 24-Bit Hi-Res. Single Mixes | Hall & Oates I am not a US citizen. So other forum members must try to download music.
The US beta store let me log in using my French password. looks like some titles are still region locked (which is to be expected)
Because when you try to create an account it says it is a closed beta. But as c-eling found out there may be a way in if you have an account from another country.
I decided to try that, create an overseas account, but stopped cold when I realized that I may have trouble creating an account and logging in legitimately when the store really does open. I looked around for stuff I have been wanting in lossless and hi-rez, and I am very happy. It's like having the old Pono store back with extras, and the prices are great! iTunes had better start worrying!
Oh sure they do! You can share links to your faves from Tidal. The only problem is nobody who doesn't pay for Tidal can use them I'm wondering when they're going to do away with this "feature."
Been a Qobuz subscriber for some time now. Love it. I subscribe to the basic streaming (mp3) tier which has offline listening via the Android and Windows apps. I purchase hi-res flac albums as I would have done before I ditched all physical media and when all in on digital.
Maybe now is a good time to share my 'Favorite albums of 2018' public playlist on Qobuz. All available in either lossless or hi-res. Happy New Year! Open Qobuz
That's really odd. I just clicked on the White Album Qobuz post. Then clicked try for free. Whats the pros/cons of tidal and Qobuz?
Maybe one had to be logged in to a FB account. I clicked through the White Album on their FB page and got just as far as I got before. (Again, not logged in.) Pro-Qobuz: * If you want to stream music AND regularly buy hi-res downloads, Qobuz offers a yearly plan which includes discounts on the purchases you make. A more attractive deal the more music you actually buy. * Only hi-res streamer in the US (once it launches). Anti-Qobuz: * You're probably going to want to make sure your portable device can handle hi-res content while running your chosen OS. If you can't exceed redbook (44.1/16-bit) because limitations, Qobuz would be pointless for portable use. (Doesn't mean you can't still stream at home on a desktop with the right hardware and software. It looks like qobuz offers desktop client software, but I could only get so far.)
