What's the funniest movie you ever saw?

Not for everybody, and not for kids, but I thought this was pretty funny.

 

I loved that movie 30 years ago but I don't think it aged well.

I watched it in 2002 and found it much less enchanting than back in the 80s:

Also: I agree that Happiness was really funny .

Funny that, in 30 years I did not age so well either!

I've never laughed at anything as much as I laughed at the first 40 minutes of the South Park movie. Borat also springs to mind.

Funny is hard to hold on to. I thought The Big Lebowksi was one of the funniest movies Id ever seen. Watched it the other night after not seeing it for many years. Didnt laugh once. Maybe a giggle.

Jim Carrey could make me laugh back in the day. Now, nothing.

Probably "Being There" still makes me still laugh consistently.

Comedy outdates pretty fast.

I've already posted, but a couple I've only seen lately for the first time that had me laughing a lot were The Great Race, from 1965, with Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood, and The Court Jester, from 1955 or 1956, with Danny Kaye and Glynis Johns. Another enjoyable movie with many humorous moments is The Parent Trap, from 1961, with Hayley Mills, Maureen O'Hara and Brian Keith. That one I had seen at the movies when I was six years old, but not again until 2018.

The biggest laugh (causing actual tears) I’ve had in recent memory was Gambit (2012). It’s an obscure remake of a 60s Michael Caine movie with a Coen Brothers screenplay. They probably wrote it ten years before it got made as I remember reading about it in a development hell magazine article ten or so years before the film got made. The film is good and slyly clever and inventive. All the sex farce stuff at the hotel in the middle of the film is very funny. SPOILER: I was crying with laughter when Colin Firth is caught in the hotel room by the hotel manager, much to the confusion of the woman in the room who had no idea he was there. I’m even chuckling just thinking about it right now.

The film is sometimes hilarious and far, far better than its non-reputation would indicate.

Give it a shot. It’s been on UK Netflix for years and it’s probably still there right now.

 

Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid is a favorite.

Recently saw and loved The Lonely Guy.
