Almost everyone gets around to using a Telecaster at one time or another, but my favorite who's used it a lot more is probably Steve Cropper, the master of guitar minimalism.

13 pages and nobody mentioned Reggie Young? You guys need to do a little research into the Nashville "A" team. Young is probably one of Americas all time great guitar players.

Listen to this unbelievably great telecaster playing on this tune. thats Reggie.

to me, the tele is really about two things that define it

    1. big metal FIXED bridge & plate. contributes a lot, or at least some, of the overall twang sound.

    2. Beefy stock bridge pickup, more powerful than a stock strat pickup.

thats pretty much it, in my opinion. You can easily get that tele thing going if you install the above on many non-tele guitars. Not all of course.

some guys will argue till the cows come home that the three saddle bridge is twangier-better than the 6. I never really noticed all that much - the 6 is helluva lot easier to intonate.

I saw these guys in the late '90s and stood about 5 feet away (center) in a packed club(The Belly-Up Tavern)watching an incredible performance by all three! They have only 3 CDs out and I strongly recommend them!Very eclectic with three very different style playing guitarists. From L.A.

236 posts and 10 pages before someone mentioned Jerry Donahue. Allow me to bring his name up again as his work with Fotheringay and Fairport alone qualifies him.

Albert Collins, very unique and personal tone. Interesting capo sound and tuning. So many cool instrumentals. Really distinctive and cool Tele player.

I loved Night Music. I used to stay up late and video tape it. It still hasn't been released on DVD. Such a great show. I remember that NRBQ performance vividly. Blew my mind. Made me a fan.

I swear I posted a clip of Hodinott somewhere in this thread, I think it was 'Battle of New Orleans,' he had a great tone.

Grateful Dead Box of Rain - I posted this one earlier in the thread but the link is dead.

A great tele sound from David Nelson of the New Riders of the Purple Sage, and that is not a bender on the solo, it's all in his fingers.

I believe that Jimmy Page used one for the first two Led Zep albums, which is remarkable given the sound.

  22. That really does sound like the pedal steel sound that Clarence White was after with his invention of the B-bender. Exceptionally well-recorded, too.

He played it on the first Paul Butterfield Blues Band album. I think East West was the Les Paul.

I was listening to the LP version of his album Telecasting yesterday, what a great player he was. So sad that he had a severe stroke a couple of years ago...

Yes, it’s really a great loss to the music world, not to mention his friends and family.
