One afternoon the radio team of Don & Mike were talking about how much they were enjoying this new show called The Sopranos, and I remember thinking to myself, "Really? A show about opera singers?" Yeah I was dumb too.

Apparently they was what Jamie Lynn Siegler (Meadow) thought too at first.

The discussion about whether the show could have worked on Network TV reminds me of this sketch..still kills me..

'The Sopranos' did not sound like a show I'd be interested in, but fortunately after it concluded, I watched the entire run at my speed.

    Perfect

Thought it was initially a Goodfellas ripoff.

You weren't dumb. Just hearing the title of the show does make it sound like a show about opera singers.

Still for me the greatest series ever and HBO’s shining moment. Talk about must see TV every Sunday night. Miss it.

I got married later that year and my parents' entrance music was the theme song. :)

OK, now HBO, can we please have 100% of Six Feet Under done in HD now?

funny, so did i. with "budget" actors. man were we conditioned to think Goodfellas was the definitive statement on the subject. glad i stuck around.

One of the best theme songs ever. I’ve never tired of it.

Of that reunion, there were, unfortunately, a few missing people (not referring to Gandolfini, either).

I guess you can’t have everything.

I remember thinking it was strange that this was just starting on TV at the same time Analyze This was in theaters. Of course in season 2, they make a joke about the similarity.

I wonder how it feels over at HBO this week. They haven't been the topic of much conversation lately. The Buzz around the Sopranos has been through the roof. HBO's still trying, but for awhile there it was HBO, and than all the rest. Hasn't been that way for a long time!

True, Showtime, AMC, and NetFlix have had the better shows of the past decade. But the new season of True Detective is certainly getting a lot of attention for HBO lately.

They're gonna be getting six weeks of conversation like they've never had when Game of Thrones comes back on, not to mention the weeks leading up to it. I imagine they're a little concerned about what happens after that's over.

When I watched The Sopranos in 2012 it looked a smidgen dated, flip phones( first season). But ..that didn't stop me enjoying the show.

It is dated. Right down to the automobiles they drived. The show had a few problems (no show is perfect), but it was pretty damn good.

For me, the scenes I liked least were with definitely the Melfi/Tony one on ones. Sometimes they were really good, but could be at times pretty dull.

IMO, The Sopranos has aged much better than Goodfellas.

Well Goodfellas has period setting, gives it the advantage. Also, it's a film..self contained.
