This is just soooo good. Action-adventure with realistic sci-fi elements, and political consequences. Best-looking science fiction series since Zylons started wearing red dresses. Every episode you start thinking to yourself, "I'm just lookin' at a big, dumb, sci-fi show"...and every tail-end has you reeled-in again!
In places I find the effects to be a little too obviously CGI (usually scenes where characters are shown running down corridors, up ladders etc, the scenery is usually digital as far as I can tell), but then I think of the extent of what they trying to portray and all is forgiven, the outside space battle scenes look fantastic. The political element is interesting too, adds a good dimension to the plot lines. It is now one of my favourites and I can't wait for the next series, so glad Amazon picked it up.
No, that's not right. In fact, they've built extensive physical sets, including for all the ships' interiors. They do look cool due to the lighting and color palette, so perhaps that's why you think they have to be CG. It's actually the ship space scenes which look (and are, of course) CGI. Everything is too shiny, clean and polished looking. Space is actually a very dirty place and space assets would soon lose their shiny luster. I do love the ship dynamics and projectile fire as they obey the physical laws of motion, which is always great to see in serious scifi. Absolutely agree on both counts. Bring it on!
...reminds me of one of the audio commentaries on Blu-ray (S02E12): Mark Fergus (executive producer, writer): "Here's the set I was talking about that people mistake for being virtual because it's got beautiful light."
I'm enjoying this show on Amazon. I had never seen nor heard about this show until this thread. I'll keep watching it.
Agree completely, also I feel the scenes where there is lots of stuff going on in space look too fake. This aside, the show (and books) are really a political drama that takes place a few hundred years in the future.
I finished the first 2 seasons -all good fun, but now Amazon wants to charge me for Season 3 episodes. I'm not biting yet.

Ok, I have amazon prime at the moment but No Expanse where I live. So I just bought the blu-ray. Typical... but it's worth it for the sound upgrade
Does that mean free to monthly subscribers? Last time I checked on it ……….. the first 2 seasons required further payment in the UK.

Burn Gorman is Adolphus Murtry in season 4. Video introduction: The Expanse on Twitter Steven McCarthy also just announced that he's in season 4:
I was out with the almost flu over the weekend and decided to take a shot at watching this show. Needless to say, I've gone through all three seasons by now lol Highly enjoyable and looking forward to the next season.
I enjoyed the first 3 seasons. It's rare to get some decent SciFi shows, so this one was a welcome surprise.
Is that the show that has a kind of 1950's film noir look? It starts with the search for the missing girl.
