Those try-too-hard metal bands with sucky names such as Cradle Of Filth and Cannibal Corpse etc.

No, I'm afraid not. But they are definitely one of the pioneers of this particular "meta-genre" which I duly give them credit for. Yeah, I guess I should finally give them a chance. :)

For me it has nothing to do with being offensive or not. I can just tell what I'm in for. You can tell a lot by a band's name (at least I can).

The artist names or the fact that people won't check out Butthole Surfers or Throbbing Gristle?

All offense... but this has got to be one of the most inane threads I have ever seen, and it's already 8 pages. It's great what actually gets people involved. All I can say is Oreos Yum!

Some names just annoy without being offensive. No idea what these acts with annoying names sound like, they might be fine:

    Hootie and the Blowfish
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard
    Limp Bizkit
Kurt Vile (and I normally like puns)

I meant to add Toad The Wet Sprocket. Sounds unpleasant somehow.

I've never felt excited to check out The Editors.

It might be because I've worked as an editor. If a band's name reminds you of your job, it's generally not enticing.

This is why there is no band named 'Desk Job' (I hope).

Blame it on his parents, since Kurt Samuel Vile is his actual name.

Funny, I'm a video editor and always felt like I should check out this band. But I like my job, maybe that's why.

I've seen The Editors. Didn't make much of an impression although their name is OK as far as I'm concerned.

Man, you're REALLY missing out with this lot. I went to see them specifically because of their name and I was not disappointed. A super-productive band (five albums in 2017 alone), incredibly skilled players, two drummers, fantastic psych music and they even have their own touring festival, Gizzfest, in Australia. Check this out.........https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5t8qzm

Yes I've also heard they're good. I may have to overcome my prejudices. Hate the name Gizzfest as well though.

This thread made me put on Throbbing Gristle's "20 Jazz Funk Greats" (most misleadeing album name ever, love it). What a great weird album! Thanks for reminding me of it, it's been a while.

Right, an email promoting upcoming gigs has come through and reminded me of a few more:

    Fat White Family
    Catfish and The Bottlemen

I am a fan of the Greatful Dead and own a large collection of their music, but I think they would have reached an even larger audience if they had chosen a different name and used less skull and skeleton imagery.

I can’t say I would ever avoid a band due to their name ;however, I do tend to hesitate when the name is either more then three words long or starts with the word “the”. I really don’t know why.
