Sometimes you will see a charge on your card, but it is a preauthorization charge and usually disappears in a couple days. That allows them to charge you when it arrives.

    Thanks again!

  3. They charge when the item ships if you pay by credit card. I believe they charge immediately if you pay by Paypal.

This is correct, unless they changed things recently. I consider this to be unethical, and it's one of the several reasons I won't do business with ImportCDs. Same goes for DiscountDVD.

That has nothing to do with the retailer. Pay Pal is an immediate method of payment !!!!!!

My last two orders, one from Import CDs (where I had chosen expedited shipping I'll admit ), and Deep Discount (free standard shipping) have both arrived on release day I'm happy to say.

Is it? I never considered that, and I don't find it to be officially described as such. I think it to be unethical for a retailer to take payment for something they don't deliver, especially if they don't tell you that's what they plan to do. It most certainly DOES have to do with the retailer.

Not to mention that the one time I made that mistake with them, I had to fight with them to reimburse me for the charge. They were not going to do it if I didn't make an issue out it. They were obviously hoping I'd just forget about it and they could keep the money.

Yes ! They (Pay Pal) take from whatever source you choose to fund the purchase from, immediately.

Probably best if you avoid Paypal then as no matter where or what you buy it's immediately charged. Problem solved.

Even better: avoid ImportCDs and their terrible service. Saving a few pennies (if you're lucky) is not worth the aggravation.

The Paypal problem is just one of several I've had with ImportCDs and DeepDiscountDVD.

My issue is with ImportCDs and DeepDiscountDVD, not Paypal. I've been using Paypal for decades and I've rarely had a problem with it.

Quite true. PayPal did have a Pay After Delivery option, but it wasn't available under all circumstances, and they discontinued it earlier this year anyway.

FWIW, I've never had any problem with ImportCDs or any of their subsidiary/linked companies. I've ordered lots of things from them and only needed to get a refund once. I don't remember the reason, but I do recall that I had paid via PayPal and I got my refund within 24-48 hours. In fact, I remember being surprised because I'd read some horror stories here about ImportCDs taking forever to refund people through PayPal.

What does the retailer have to do with Paypal immediately sending the funds to them? It's not like they can say oh Mr. Paypal, can you wait until the stock arrives in a week before sending this clients funds? :wtf: The retailer can only accept or deny the funds.

The retailer should accept the Paypal funds when they ship the merchandise. They should not collect and then never ship anything, then rely on the buyer to force them to reimburse. At the very least, they should tell the buyer what's going on.

Do you really think this is good business practice?

I don't know, but I would contact the interested purchaser when stock arrives and tell them to send payment or miss out. I know, I'm kind of old fashioned that way but respectful of my buyers. I don't imagine that might work too well if I had a large clientele though either. Whaddya gonna do.

Again, it's not on the retailer. The buyer is given the choice of using a card, which delays payment until shipping, or Pay Pal, which is immediate, and 99 % of Pay Pal users are aware of that.

Again, the retailer should not charge the buyer for something they do not provide, especially without telling them.

Do you get a kickback from ImportCD or Paypal?

shirley you must be joking. if i were myke i'd give up on graciously explaining how one of the world's most popular payment methods works since you seem hellbent on failing to misunderstand the basics of ecommerce in 2018. get real, fella.

Thank you. Several of us have been trying to get through the concrete, but I believe it's impossible.
When I joined Pay Pal, at least 10 years ago, it wasn't for a pre order, but a purchase that was about to be released, but my memory is of it being as common sense as breathing, that they are simply an internet conduit for immediate payment.

I must report a bad experience with ImportCDs. I ordered a backordered CD and after a month of waiting it didn't ship, so I wrote to them requesting that it be cancelled and my money refunded, given how they charge up front for backordered CDs. After another week of waiting and three emails they still haven't cancelled the CD or issued me a refund. I'll have to open a case with Paypal to get my money back. Very poor service.

Have they replied to your three emails? If so, what did they say?

That they'll cancel the backordered CD and issue a refund, but it's been a week and it hasn't happened.

A couple of business days. This isn't reasonable either however. It should be done instantly. It's not like they're sending out checks.
