Actually there is another Technics SL1200Mk2 turntable listed but it needs a headshell and cartridge.
I'm totally out of my area of expertise here guys... Don't need the best right now, just want to start playing records again.
    What say you?

Getting a headshell and cartridge isn't that difficult. The main thing you'll need to do is test the turntable when you go look at it. Google for how to do that - there is some 1200 specific info out there. Hard to say much more without knowing more about the condition of the specific turntable you're looking at.

The seller mentions a motor issue at 45rpm IIRC. I would skip this one.

I haven't examined that model. I have examined a few different LP120s and they all had the feel of a cheap knockoff with loose tonearm bearings. Some examples might be fine for your purposes but I would not advise chancing it on a used one. If you must buy one of these Hanpin tables, make sure you get a good return policy. QC is an issue on many models and they will never be as good as the real thing.

Was looking at this one on eBay LINK
So looking at it FIRST doesn't seem feasible.
He added it only needing the cartridge after I contacted him.

Is it worth the price he is asking?

The price is within the range that these tables go for. Impossible to say if his is a good example without inspecting in person. eBay is always a gamble with turntables because 99% of sellers don't know how to pack them properly.

You'll have to decide for yourself whether it's worth the risk and hassle to return if something goes wrong.

Here is a good guide on how to pack:

How to Pack a Stereo Turntable for safe transist....

Most sellers won't go through that trouble, they just toss in whatever box they have sitting around and throw in some newspaper or foam peanuts. Always a risk that way, many people receive damaged eBay turntables due to this. I would try to deal locally if you want a used turntable.

The Pioneer PX1000 is not far off your budget. Plus, you might be able to use a guitar center coupon

Yeah, that seemed dubious to me. Seller says if you give it a spin by hand to get it going it stays at 45 rpm, but I don't understand how that could be true... direct drive is either turning at a certain speed or not, so it seems like if it can't speed up to 45, it can't stay at 45...

    I just bought it!
He agreed to pack it like the link you gave me (THANKS!). Also gave him a youtube link on how to remove the platter.
    Hopefully all goes well.

Thanks again guys!!! I'll let you know how it turns out.

Could someone hook me up with a link for a stylus? Just something to get by for now. Thanks!

Wall-mounted shelf. Keep it. I think it is the most handsome TT in its price range.

At first I had my new (to me) turntable sitting where I had the Fluance. I leveled it, set the track force the angle of the stylus the tone arm height and the anti-skate, everything was set.
Then I find out the cable I have wouldn’t plug in, both ends being male obviously wouldn’t connect. So I had to plug directly into the preamp and figured if I’m going to test this technics turntable I’m going to set it up in the worst scenario possible. On a board sitting on a laundry basket 3 feet from the subwoofer. And wouldn’t you know it there was absolutely no problems whatsoever!

I like that idea, I have the perfect spot for a wall shelf. I'll need to get the right cable though.

It was... Sent it back. Now I have a much much better machine!

Don't know if the pics work yet, new account. I'll try again later.
