Is it better than an original Solid State pressing?

Ya, if you put music on that they know, it can be more impressive. Like "they have never heard it sound so good" before.
If you put on something they don't know (even if it does sound fantastic,) how are they supposed to judge "how good" it is.
    Compared to what?

Playing orchestral recordings well is a big reason I have my system where it is.

It just came out on Friday so not sure anyone even knows yet. But the remaster is pretty amazing.

Hmmm... You know I'm thinking of buying this. Like I need yet another copy of the same thing, lol.

For the same purpose I use "Clouds", the first track of the album "Floating World" (1974) by Jade Warrior, which is anyway a very fine record indeed.

Strange, considering Katy Lied is among the worst Steely Dan recordings.

Honestly, aside from one musician friend I haven’t run into anyone in years who has any interest in hearing my system. It really doesn’t matter to me at all. Some of these people fish or golf, etc. I don’t care about their stuff either.

Most of us around here have enough music to let anybody choose. Some of our record collections could even reveal symptoms of a hoarding disorder to many people :D

I don´t even consider the possibility of "what if they want some music I don´t own?".

My worries are more within the range of "will they still think I´m a normal human being after finding out that I have 5 or 6 copies of The Dark Side of the Moon?"

Plus, even in the case you mention, any mobile phone + a 20 USD bluetooth receiver will do the trick (going into the amplifier via RCA cables).

It´s probably one of the best purchases I ever made. Not only for music, but also to use the stereo as a "home cinema" while streaming videos or movies on the laptop/tablet.

    Only 5 or 6 ;^)
I hope you have a nice spread of different pressings though.
Right now I enjoy the UK original and MoFi the most. Any preferences?

I usually don't have one specific album. I ask people what they like and try to pick a good example that fits their taste.

If you have a really clean Solid State pressing you might want to just stick with that. I know I probably would, mainly because I'm starting to move away from buying multiple copies of albums I already own. That said, the Tone Poet pressing is very nice, and I didn't already own the album on any format so it was an easy purchase.

Not bright, but just a bit "live" yes. Somebody complains about it being noisy, but my copy is dead silent in quiet passages. I bought it new the day it came out.

Am I the only one who would actually reach for Wish You Were Here over Dark Side of the Moon to show off a system? I know DSOTM is the technical innovation masterpiece and all, but I feel WYWH has more dynamic contrasts and at times delicate instrumental work that benefits from nice resolution.

Really, though, I don't think I have ever selected music with company over for the purpose of showcasing my system. It's more of a, what music would be good right now, and then whatever that is should sound good through what I have put together. I don't want to force certain music on a situation just because it is a great pressing.
