"Bang Bang" only got to #49 in the UK and apparently didn't chart elsewhere, so it wasn't much of a hit.

That said, a lot of Squeeze songs didn't do much on the charts - "Goodbye Girl" is on "Singles" and it charted worse!

I think Glenn and Chris absolutely loathe the song; I can't remember the details but it's discussed in the excellent "Squeeze: Song By Song" book that came out a while ago.

And that is the very reason I have never bought a BS comp. It is my favourite of his songs and no best of package seems complete without it.

Further to the OP's point about Pat Benatar's Best Shots, I am pretty certain the UK edition included Sex As A Weapon. It was possibly her biggest hit here.

This one reached #23 on the American charts. He didn't have that many Top 40 hits.

Upteen compilations...going back decades, and "Blue Money" is MIA on every single one of them.

    Why the disdain, Van?

Shaking my head for years now.

probably mentioned but R.E.M. has 2 releases that cover the warner bros year and neither release has these songs on it in the hit versions.

-drive-I think this was the highest charting hit from automatic for the people
-strange currencies-this was the last big hit by them I remember being played to death and the video shown to death
-bang and blame- isn't this the biggest charting hit from monster?

Ever get a greatest hits or anthology of an artist that you only casually like, and can't believe what they omitted? Especially in the CD age where 80 minutes of music fit on a disc?

    Some that come to mind:

The Best of the Band (1976) - Chest Fever
Journey Greatest Hits (1988) - Stone in Love
The Best of Van Morrison (1990) - Wavelength
Osmondmania! (2003) - A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock 'N Roll
Styx Gold (2006) - Don't Let It End

ABBA GOLD is missing "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do".... a considerable "hit" in many countries, including USA.
It's on More ABBA Gold instead.

On the Lou Reed box-set ' Between Thought and Expression', ' Perfect Day' was left out.
I realize there's not room for everybody's favourites but this is inexcusable.

George Harrison's Let It Roll compilation and Bangla Desh, Dark Horse, You, This Song, Crackerbox Palace and That's the Way It Goes. Instead we got three live versions of Beatles songs.

"A Hazy Shade Of Winter" in Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits; but that compilation is perfect as it is.

    Yes..
They could have included these two songs and left out the two non-Wings songs that were included.
Unless, like me, you're of the opinion that Wings is really The Paul McCartney Band.

And yet room for the totally dull 'Wild Horses' and a clutch of 'newer' songs, none of which are memorable.
