I listened to both records. Perfect Strangers sounds so dated today. House of Blue Light has some cheesy synths sounds, but the song material is stronger than the best on Perfect Strangers.

    My rating...
    Perfect Strangers 5,5/10
    House of Blue Light 7/10

However, excluding the 70's...The Battle Rages On LP is my favorite from MKII.

I thought there weren’t supposed to be anymore versus threads. What gives?

It's no contest...one of the best comeback albums followed by one of the worst. The only reason HOBL even gets a 2 is because Bad Attitude is one of the greatest tunes the band has ever produced.

When I heard PS the very first time, I was blown away. My favorite song is the title track, like the Eastern-mood.

I think that was between different bands, not where the albums/songs are by the same group. That's why the annoying weakest link threads weren't banned.

Okay, in that case, I vote for Perfect Strangers. By no means a perfect album, but the strong tunes on it eclipse anything on HoBL.

Perfect Strangers is BY FAR the best Purple record ever. Side 2 is pure perfection. The best Blackmore playing ever and the rest of the band is in the perfect spot between ability and maturity. Nobody overplays a single note. House of Blue Light is a great record but it has it's flaws and one obvious filler track (Hard Loving Woman).
    I'd say

    PS 10/10
    HOBL 9/10

Very weak record. Bought it on the morning of it's release and was horribly dissapointed. Now it sounds even worse with exactly one (!) strong song on it - Solitaire.

Perfect Strangers for sure. One piece of trivia for myself is that House Of Blue Light was the last new album I bought on vinyl for over 20 years. I still have it.

Perfect Strangers title track, apart from Child In Time, is as strong as anything on Deepest Purple.

Sadly, Bad Attitude is all I've ever heard of HoBL. Which is pure DP, but I don't care for it as much as the strongest songs on PS.

Perfect Strangers is the 4th best MKII album ahead of Who Do We Think We Are.
Blue Light is the 6th and Battle...i don't even count that one to be honest.

    1, Machine Head
    2. In Rock
    3. Fireball
    4. Perfect Strangers

    5. Who Do We Think We Are
    6. House Of Blue Light

I thought your favorite is Slaves & Masters?

I agree side 2 is better than the 1st one... Wasted Sunsets has a killer guitar solo.

Why wouldn't you just give it to somebody who may want it? Or donate it to a thrift store? No need to EVER throw music in the garbage.
