Rush's Moving Pictures was released on February 12, 1981 and it launched them into stardom. What do you think of Moving Pictures? Do you love it all? Only Side A? Mostly Side B? Do you love Witch Hunt more than the rest of the album? Is it your favorite Rush album, or do you prefer Hemispheres or 2112?

Moving Pictures isn't my favourite Rush album. Their best records, for me, were released later. But it's a very decent album - no weak tracks - and I still spin it occasionally.

My favorite Rush album, I like every song ... haven't listened to it in quite a while, though!

It's a goddamn masterpiece. Flawless and easily among their top 3 albums of all time, if not #1.

Probably my favourite Rush album, it’s a collection of consistently excellent tunes. Limelight, imho, is Lifeson’s finest moment.

Grace Under Pressure is their crowning achievement for me but I really like all of the records from Signals through to Presto. Vapour Trails & Snakes & Arrows are up there too. Their other late period albums are all pretty good although sadly I've never got into Clockwork Angels.

I'm not overly fond of the '70s records apart from Fly By Night.

2112 just edges Moving Pictures into #2 position for me. Both are complete masterpieces in their own right.

Not a weak song in the bunch for me. Vital Signs was a precursor to the direction coming on Signals.

Not a huge RUSH fan but I have this LP and the DVD-A 5.1 so obviously like the record a lot despite not being a big fan. It's the only RUSH release I own.

Limelight is not just my favorite RUSH song, but one of my favorite songs from anyone. Also love how cinematic Red Barchetta is. Music sets the mood of the lyrics much better than most movie composers could ever do. A true work of art.

I will add that it seems from everything I've seen of them in docs and in interviews, that these guys (particularly Geddy & Alex) seem like the nicest rock stars of all time.

Great album! My uncle played "Tom Sawyer" for me when I was like seven of eight years old and it was like hearing music for the first time. What was this magic? I now own every Rush album on CD, vinyl, and hi-res download. Love them!

Moving Pictures is not my favorite Rush album, but if I was going to introduce Rush to someone this would be a perfect catch-all album to represent the band.

It's got the familiar, catchy radio staples (Tom Sawyer, Limelight), some abstract prog metal (Witch Hunt), some new wave (Vital Signs), even a nod to their recent extended-composition-based past (The Camera Eye).

It's darn close to being a perfect album. The production is great, it's length is perfect to where it doesn't outstay it's welcome....

    A true classic imo :)

Love this album a ton! Not a bad tune on it at all and The Camera Eye is one of my favorite Rush songs ever. I am a bit younger of a Rush fan so for me getting to hear Moving Pictures in full a couple of times during the Time Machine Tour was really amazing

Yes! I've always thought that too, and Vital Signs even references "signals" in the lyrics, which is...just awesome.

I listened to this entire album the other day, and I thought the half-time synth section of YYZ also points nicely in the direction of Signals.

"Tom Sawyer" was used in a fantastic way on an episode of the TV series Chuck. Perfect album all around.

My vote would go to the MFSL CD. But when the 2015 remaster is released on CD (without the watermarking present in the hi-res version), it'll be a serious contender.

For me...……….2112, A Farewell To Kings, and Hemispheres are the Holy Trinity of Rush. Such an incredible run of music. Moving Pictures isn't far behind.

I love Moving Pictures... voted 'Every song' cause my favorite changes frequently. These days it's "The Camera Eye".

My favorite Rush record is Permanent Waves but this is in the top 5 (or 6) for sure :)

I'm glad to see that "Every song" is way in the lead.

Me too. It's pretty much my favorite song on the album.

  24. A good album and Tom Sawyer may be their best song. The band also use technology and synths in a way that doesn't sound dated. However they then chucked all that away from the next album on for the rest of the decade. Mind boggling how a band can go from MP to Power Windows in just 4 years.

Cut school to buy this on the day of release. Still remember the long box that someone removed my copy from and then handed to me.
I still like it but I am very truly burnt out on side one, far more so than any other Rush, although side one of Permanent Waves comes close.
It’s interesting to think that Moving Pictures, an album I was crazy obsessed with, would be the beginning of the end of my passion for the band. At least until the release of Chronicles brought me back into the fold.
