I saw this on CD Universe. Looks like some alternate tracks will be released.

VERY cool if they're going to actually use the original LP cover artwork as pictured on the link. Wonder if it will be the original mix or a remix.

It will be a remix and they are using the original artwork as pictured.

I see the 45 RPM version of this that Steve mastered last year is on pre-order at Acoustic Sounds.

Does anyone know a release date? This is the one going under my Christmas tree.

I think it's cool that even cartoon characters have unreleased tracks lying around in the vaults. If so, then there's surely been a Charlie Brown Christmas bootleg available at some point. :D

From the Concord Music Group website:

A special remastering of Vince Guaraldi’s beloved soundtrack album. Includes 4 previously unreleased bonus tracks and original album artwork.

*Remixed in stereo and 24-bit remastered from the original tapes

*Original cover art reinstated with the approval of the Estate of Charles Schultz

*Released in a Digi-Pak for the first time

*New liner notes by famed music critic/historian Joel Selvin which incorporates an interview with original producer Lee Mendelsohn

*A timeless classic with everlasting appeal!

I wonder why the remix...I can't remember...is the original CD in stereo or mono? (I hope they don't compress it to death!)

The Monster Super Disc version was released in digi-pak (not that this is a great selling point..:( )

The SACD sounds the best digital version to to my ears (Including the Monster DVD-A).

I have the standard cd of this. Is it worth a repurchase?? It's cheap enough.

I bought this today and an VERY disappointed with the mastering. Why go to the bother of remixing it and then swamping it with noise reduction? It sounded like blankets were covering my speakers. How much hiss could there have been on the tapes? Why would they expect that we would be turned off by a little hiss? Instead, I'm turned off because the heavy handed use of noise reduction seriously interferes with my enjoyment of this timeless music.

I'm returning this disc and will put the money towards an order from Acoustic Sounds for Steve's 45 RMP mastering. What a missed opportunity. :shake:

Thanks for the tip. I'll avoid this disc and maybe get the 45RMP mastering also.

    VERY disappointed with the mastering.

Sorry to hear that they did this.

Why go to the bother of remixing it and then swamping it with noise reduction?

Sounds like a directive from Concord; no Fantasy engineer would have done that on their own.

It sounded like blankets were covering my speakers.

    Too much noise reduction.

How much hiss could there have been on the tapes?

    Hardly any at all.

The sad thing is that this will be their "new" master from now on and the original version will vanish from history. Do yourself and save up for the Analogue Productions' 45 RPM version that Kevin Gray and I did last Nov. It's from the ORIGINAL master mixes as restored by us and sounds like you remember it only better. Our version is probably the last time the original master tapes will ever be used..

Do we know if the SACD is a different mastering than the 45rpm?

Re: "A Charlie Brown Christmas" CD remaster with bonus tracks on 10/10

Thanks Steve. I will certainly order the Analogue Productions 45 RMP version. I was hoping that this new one would be "the best" CD version. Heck, the packaging is top notch...great graphics, nice notes and photos. I expected that the music within would have received the same care. I was very surprised when I popped the disc in expecting nice dynamics from a remix only to find that the life had been taken out of it. I usually shy away from negative posts but I figured that there are others looking for a great sounding digitial version of this album and I wanted to save them the same disappointment. I haven't heard the SACD. I may try to find it and the new 45 RPM version.

    Michael,

A word of advice just between us (and I guess a million other people on the 'Net). Try and find the common and cheap "old" Fantasy CD, the one from the early 1990's (or was it the late 1980's?) It has the correct versions of everything on there. I much prefer it to the SACD.

    I agree 100% with this.
The SACD was way too bright for my taste. Picked up an original vinyl pressing last year, can't wait to get my hands on the 45RPM version.
