Nothing wrong with a statue of Little Richard. However, why destroy the other. Subversion for the sake of it is wrong and a tactic that hopefully will not bring down our society.

The American South has a lot to be proud of, including that it was the birthplace of rock and roll. Why they choose to display their pride in the ugliest part of their history - and our history as a country - is utterly beyond me.

Macon has more churches per capita than any city in the US.
If they want to put up one for William T. Sherman, I'd be good with that.

Cant see this thread lasting too long.....

Maybe they should put a statue up of Little Richard pulling on the belt buckle of the late Gregg Allman?
Allman was a pretty well known singer that use to live in Macon as well.

I think the OP knows what he's doing here, and imagine that, didnt put his thoughts out there on the topic....

The only questions are who erected it, when, and why. If those are the usual answers it should have been gone years ago.

Richard Penniman has inspired millions around the world.

Destroying history for the sake of revision is a quick way to destroy society. Little Richard would make for a cool statue though

Talking about the history of the statue itself would also problematic. Not really good reasons for it being there.

I mean I get the gist but why hasn't Macon thought of a statue yet? James Brown got one in nearby Augusta. Ray Charles has one in Albany. Otis Redding, another Macon homeboy, also has one. Chuck Berry has one in St. Louis. Elvis has a few. But nothing for the so-called Architect of Rock? By law, they can't remove the statue they have but I do think he needs a statue. Unless Macon thinks the Memorial House is a honor enough for him?

The people who own and created the monument still own it. They have every right to keep it regardless of one woman campaigning. And again, trying to change history(complex history) is never a good thing.. A Little Richard monument would be awesome though

She's right. There should be a statue of Little Richard in Macon, Georgia, and prominently displayed.

Taking down a statue is not necessarily changing history. One needs to take into account many factors, like why the statue was erected in the first place, when it was erected, etc. For all we know, the statue was put up to change history in the first place.

The report says the woman wants the statue moved, not destroyed.

Statues are moved all the time.
