My Fantasy recordeing look a little different. I'm not so high tech as to post pictures but it's number is FCD-8431-2. Printing date is 1988. I'm assuming that's what p in a circle means.

I agree. I believe there was a thread discussing the SACD vs. the original CD release. If I recall correctly, both the original CD and the SACD sounded very similar. I felt the SACD had an edge over the original CD.

Does the SACD have the wrong versions?

The original redbook CD has appeared with two covers. The second version is the one shown in Michael's post above. The first version features the original drawing from the LP cover but without the yellow background or the cool original fonts. It is pictured below. There is also apparently a third pressing which features the cover in Michael's post but corrects the musician credits (Monty Budwig and Colin Bailey only play on Greensleeves, the rest of the album features Fred Marshall and Jerry Granelli). All versions of this CD feature the same mastering by George Horn.

RATS...I have the "second" CD pressing, rather than the "first"! I also bought that SACD and wasn't won over with the sound, to be honest!

With my new found interest again with vinyl, I'm all over this new 45 rpm, 2-LP from Steve and Kevin! I just bought the Sinatra/Jobim LP that they did on 180 gram and it SMOKES, anything else that I've EVER heard of those tracks! I also just found a still sealed "Best Of Little Walter" LP that Steve did for Chess/MCA and Walt never sounded better, IMO!

Even though $50 bucks is a LOT of $$$'s, sometimes you've just got to know when to say when and WHEN it comes to Steve's work, we "ALL" know that, "NOW" is the time to say WHEN...

I also think the SACD sounds better, but I will be getting the vinyl! if they ever start shipping it. Is there a release date yet?

I've got the CD from '86, 11 tracks.

    It does not have Greensleeves.

The sound quality of a given release will always be inversely proportional to the comprehensiveness of its content.

Steve, do you know which cover art (of the ones pictured in this thread) the Analogue set will feature? Not that it will affect my purchase decision, I'm just curious.

Yup. The best digital version, I'm sorry to say.

Our 45 RPM cutting kills it in every way but it's 50 bucks.

The standard older Fantasy CD release of this sounds like blankets are covering my speakers.

How much hiss could there have been on the tapes?

    Steve: Hardly any at all.

This just kills me. Assuming Concord ordered the noise reduction, it should have been pitifully easy to remove the tiny amout of hiss without major damage to the music. Are there any engineers out there who know how to use NR properly when faced with the need (or the order) to use it?

I just ordered my Hoffman 45 rpm from "Acoustic Sounds". They don't seem to have an actual release date yet, which bums me out, especially because they aren't even sure, if it will arrive, by Christmas!

I was told that the gal who knows these things, was out to lunch and the guy who took my order would have her e-mail me, with an answer of an approximate date! I'll let you all know what I find out, if and when I find out!

By the way...I just noticed that this thread has had over 1,000 hits.

If every person that viewed this thread were to have ordered the HOFFMAN 45rpm version, it would now, be SOLD OUT! Think about it??? 1,000 copies aren't that many friends!

Analogue Productions appears to have two different versions of 'ACBC': one at $50 and one at $95. One has a TJAZ prefix, the other an AJAZ prefix. I can't find anything that indicates what the difference is. Anyone know? Masochistic minds want to know!

i've also preordered the vinyl and ordered the new sonic abomination cause i want the bonus tracks.

Hey, if I had a turntable, I'd have bought Steve's vinyl version the day it was released.
