And the anticipation continues to build as some of us eagerly await Steve Hoffman's 45rpm release... :magoo: (Not sure what the magoo smiley means, just thought it would be fun to use it.)

Speaking of the Steve Hoffman 45rpm version...

Here is the answer I received from "Acoustic Sounds", regarding the release date...

    Christopher,
I was informed you were wanting information on AJAZ 8431 / Charlie Brown Christmas. We are trying hard to get this in before Christmas, but I have no actual release date on this at this time.

Hmmm, It kinda' takes the fun out of the whole idea of this release, if it won't arrive BEFORE Christmas, doesn't it?

Hey, the new Charlie Brown CD actually sounds GREAT!!! I'm listening to it through my PC speakers, and I'm actually wondering if it sounds better than the SACD!

Well, now that the tides have turned on the reviews of the new CD, I'm going to have to buy that one too! I'm still sure, that the HOFFMAN 45rpm, will be the real "KEEPER", in the end!

I did the same comparison and not only do I prefer the older mix, but there is a bit of "processed" sound quality to the clip version. Maybe it's from the MP3encoding?

Well I had ordered it anyway for the alternate takes, so i'm glad it sounds better than at first believed.

Bummer about the wait and uncertainty about the vinyl though. I've had high hopes of having that for the holidays as well.

    I'll be picking this up.

For those that were saying they had a copy of the CD with only 11 tracks, are you sure it only has 11? My CD front and back inserts only list 11 tracks, but the CD has all 12.

Only 11 tracks on mine, and I've owned it since 1986, probably a week or two after it was first released. To me, the album ends with "The Christmas Song", as that's the way I've heard it all these years.

No idea why they tacked on "Greensleeves" as it's just an extended version of the one already on the album (as "What Child Is This"). CD bonus track, no doubt.

There was a documentary on PBS (or NET as it was called back then) called "Anatomy Of A Song" and it filmed the Guaraldi Trio recording "Cast Your Fate To The Wind". I remember (1966 or so when I saw it) the Ampex three-track machine, microphones etc. and boy, I'd love to see that again. I think it would really be of interest.

Yeah, that's my other favorite song by Guaraldi, next to "Linus and Lucy" One of the better Jazz "composers", IMO. He could really write melodies and interesting counterpoint.

All joking aside about the "Recording Vince Guaraldi" book, I just saw this release in production, on the Vince Guaraldi web site...

    Vince Guaraldi Documentary

    Planned for fall 2007 release.

Cold Nectar Films is still in production of their documentary on Vince Guaraldi. The film, complete with interviews from David Guaraldi and various sidemen that worked with Vince, is currently scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2007.

Steve, maybe that will have your "Cast Your Fate" video included on that?

Maybe someone should contact Vince's son David about searching for this material?

I'm sure they know about it. It's always mentioned on the Guaraldi website.

ANATOMY OF A HIT is directly responsible for one of the biggest groups in rock history. Anyone know why? ;)

Wasn't it somehow involved with CCR and/or the Golliwogs? I don't know the whole story, but I remember coming across that in my search for Anatomy of a Hit. It somehow got them to approach Fantasy Records, IIRC. Speaking of AOAH, I had actually been in touch with Ralph Gleason's son, Toby, to try and find out if there was any possibility of it being released on DVD, since the old Jazz Casual series had been released. He had indicated that it's a possibility, but there was nothing definite. I believe that was about 2-3 years ago.

P.S. I'd buy that book! That makes 3 of us. I'm looking forward to the documentary. Hopefully there'll be some good footage of Vince playing.

I would love to see those programs again. I mean, it's been 40 years since I saw them. That's too long, don't ya know?

Glad John & Tom Fogerty saw them back then. I was a kid and they stuck in my mind for all of these years. A real inside look at the music biz.

I just listened to the new remixed digipak release and I like it. A bit weird to hear a couple of these tunes remixed, but it sounds good to my ears, certainly not a disaster I was expecting, and its worthy for the bonus takes.

I also love the packaging. Its a tri fold digipak and the front cover is actually like an animation cel. a clear plastic with the tree and characters painted on a clear piece of plastic...the inside image under the cd tray is of a 45 of linus and lucy. Even the booklet essay is decent. I have to say I'm really glad I ponyed up the $12 for this.

Seems I buy this every year in some new configuration, but man it makes me smile and if we dont get the hoffman version this xmas, well this'll hold me over and we can all enjoy that one next year.

Worth it if you're a junkie for this album like I am for the alternate takes.

Does anyone recall that Stephen Hart also did the remixing for the Monster Music Charlie Brown Christmas release that came out last year?

Also listening to this, as on the Monster release, it sounds like Linus and Lucy may be a different take to me. I remember it was mentioned here, that on the Monster Release, Linus and Lucy and Christmas is Coming were possibly different takes.

The takes that appear on the new release are the original takes, not alternates. Only the bonus tracks are alternates.

Interesting. It sounds like a slightly different to me than my old CD.

I noticed "Skating" has a longer clean ending and is not faded like on my old CD. I like the new ending.
