Woodstock 50 is officially **OFF**!*

I had shoulder length hair until October last year.^^

 

I think this will be LEAPS and BOUNDS better than Woodstock 99. The line up isn't my style, but as long as the atmosphere is there.

The venue "WOODSTOCK" suggests "PEACE AND MUSIC"

Woodstock 99 hardly had either!

 

Oh yeah, I was at ‘94 too. We had some great hippie bands like Metallica, Nine Inch Nails, and Green Day.

 

But did those bands play at the 94 Bethel reunion that he is referring to?

 

It seems like some posters here actually think Metallica is a better fit for Woodstock than a contemporary hippie pop artist

 

Oh, disregard. I didn’t even know about that one in 94. I went to the big one! It was fun.

 

Is it the (mostly) original Santana Band?

 

Phil Lesh is performing at this one? You do know he isn't in Dead and Co right?

 

You don't see the difference? I think the promoter has a different agenda this year then he did 50 years ago. I know the audience will.

What I said about Jorma still stands, though.

 

Michael Lang is still a strong supporter of the counterculture and this is probably his last opportunity to make a big event.

 

The same reason people pay a lot of money to see all the old bands touring today with maybe a member or two and a lot of backing musicians on stage. Most are lip syncing yet they still pay (eagles, yes, jethro tull, roger waters, fleetwood mac, steely dan, foreigner, journey, brian wilson etc.)

if people are willing to pay....they will keep providing product. we are a sales driven society that will lie to you the way a used car salesman will

correct, to make money off the name "woodstock" regardless of what the product actually is

 

I think he's doing it for the culture more so than money. If it was a moneygrab, that setlist would look a lot different.

no it wouldn't, he can't afford real named acts and keep ticket prices reasonable. I think a weekend pass is around $700. kiss is getting $300 a ticket playing to 10,000 a night...do the math, he would never be able to pay any artists that come with a high price tag unless he charges $2000 for a weekend pass...the stones are getting $500 a ticket

 

There is a lot of truth in that.

But considering this will be the third sequel to the original Woodstock (not counting the small and quickly forgotten 10th anniversary), the horse left the barn long ago.

Also, they don't "have to do it" but they sure want to do it because there is big money involved. Woodstock- each and every version- does not just represent the 60s. It exemplifies how the Flower Heads all grew up and became Yuppies. Woodstock really represents the 80s more than anything, ironically the one decade it had no presence.

Time to watch The Big Chill again.

 

I don't know why the 1969 version was called that name. None of the 5-6 "Woodstock" events have been held in Woodstock NY.

I saw both versions of Yes the past several years and and can assure you they were not lip syncing. Where are you getting your Information from?

 

The festival was called "Woodstock", because the investment group that backed the concert was called "Woodstock Ventures."
