Nice concise overview... My original LP pressing got wiped-out, lost in the flood. Currently I'm very happy with my Intercords. And the latest Beat Club and BBC Sessions LPs. And the Polydor Taste cds. Rory was a master, a beast and lives on in my home and my memory seeing him blow the roof off live.

If the mastering isn't botched, I'll consider it.

Got a feeling this should be pretty decent. Chess/UMe normally do a good job, so I will start off with the 2-LP set, hopefully get the Blue vinyl version and then if the feedback is good enough on the 3 CD set, might consider that as well.

Part of me wishes they didn't feel the need to sequence every CD by theme (like the BBC set), and did it session by session instead, sort of chronologically, which I think would make the listening just as varied and yet more cohesive when taken as a whole. And part of me is just happy it's coming out at all.

    Lovely cover, by the way.

I hear where you are coming from, but since this release is centered around his love of the Blues, I kind of like what they have done here. All about the sounds that come out of my speakers when the needle hits the grooves though...

To clarify, I'm not talking about changing the tracklist, merely the sequencing.

Got ya, the word "theme" threw me off...ha! My bad...

I seeeee... A bad word choice on my part. By "theme" I meant how this release is coming out as 1 disc all acoustic, another disc all electric, another disc all live.

    Apologies for the misunderstanding!

Deuce was the 2nd or 3rd LP that I ever bought (the first was Groundhogs' "Split"), the year it came out. I sold it in the late 70s (fool!) and I'm thinking of grabbing a CD of it. So, which one should I go for? Are the pre-remaster ones all that bad? Better?

  16. Will have to check out this new release for sure.

I remember being very sick when I was a kid and unable to get out of bed. I placed my turntable on the bedside locker and played 'Live in Eorope' over and over. It sounded incredible then and still does today.
Electric, acoustic, mandolin, harmonica and whatever, Gallagher was a true master of the blues. Some guitar players play blues because they want to, others because they have to. Gallagher belonged to the latter and IMO was top of the pile.

I'm not sure Deuce came out on CD until the late 90s, and that was a louddd remix.

Get the latest remaster, which is the original mix, and you'll be alright.

    Thx for the heads up.

Btw, if in the mood for a live Rory fix and if coming "In Your Town" I highly recommend going to see the Band of Friends (Gerry McAvoy & Davy Knowles). Just saw them about 2 weeks ago, was very skeptical that anyone could cover Rory music without Rory but they did a great job.

That's correct. No CD before the 1998 CD that is the remix, and both the 2012 or 2018 remasters revert to the original mix (the 2018 sounds better).
