Gee kids, I sure hope that member @avanti1960 makes it to the 12th floor and room 1230, which is the Audio Note UK room. Very interested in hearing his or anybody who is out there's impression. If somebody would have told me that they were going to bring their AN-E SPe HE speakers (which I have been wanting to audition myself), I would have gone!

well...,,, good sound and not worthy of the hype but most likely crippled by the amplification. a bad match pure and simple. the parasound is too smooth and veiled and does not compliment the buchardts already laid back character. but they truly do have tower speaker sound in a very small box. coherent, laid back, smooth and slightly recessed but with the right amp they would really shine. the heart of the matter is what else for $2k? and the answer is not much.

now on my final room hearing spatial audio. unfortunately these are the new up range models with the horn tweeter. a smooth very pleasing sound but the music is certainly holding them back....

  9. I just heard the Ocean Way Audio “Monterey” speakers. Wow. Out of my league price-wise but just wonderful sound.

I'd love to be there! But sadly I have school and the flight from PDX to Chicago is out of my price range at the moment. Maybe next year...

I'd have loved to be there. We've exhibited at AXPONA since its inception. But AXPONA sold off our room right from underneath us despite our 'room points' and our having signed up by the deadline during last year's show. AXPONA was pretty uninterested in doing anything serious to fix it so we got shut out. Pretty disappointed...

Perhaps a more 'traditional-sounding SS' amp would be a good match?

I also take it many tube amps might not go well with it.

    Active or passive ATCs?

If active, something was badly wrong with the set-up/room.

ATC: I've found the mixing speaker of my dreams..

Absolutely but my motto is "if i don't hear it, i don't hear it" I couldn't buy speakers or become interested "hoping" they somehow will sound better after i buy them. They need to demonstrate something to go on.

I liked them but they had a very distinctive sound. No warmth whatsoever (possibly not broken in?). They relied on the forward midrange to carry the day, which sounded clear and smooth but possibly too much of a good thing.

The switched between the active and passive models- the SCM 50. The midrange was just too much and the imaging was horrid. I preferred the sound of the passives.
