Lived in Vancouver my whole life and while it is not HK, I completely understand what you are saying. But I digress. At the end of the day, ideally, we should be in this hobby to enjoy music. Yes, we split hairs over minute differences but as long as you enjoy the music, that's all that matters.

Aurora is the sort of music I expect to hear in game of Thrones or any other fairy tale. She's bloody adorable.

thanks! i just read about these on PTA (part time audiophile) where they list these "must see" rooms but have nothing to say about how they actually sounded.
Open baffle design, expensive Scan Speak midbass and tweeter. I have to say I think it looks interesting and goes well with the style of his amplifiers. Vinnie is a talented designer. He'll get the sound under control. His amplifiers tend to sound ultra smooth and I thought in recent shows that Harbeth speakers were not the best match for them.

Go to the Kyomi Audio rooms. George is a concert pianist and knows his music. He was playing this when I walked into the first one-

two years ago the president of Legacy audio had a good sized audience in a small ballroom and he was going on and on and on with marketing mumbo jumbo and charts / graphs etc. in the middle of an AUDIO show. it was painfiul! I stayed because I wanted to hear the speakers.

Oh, there's money in the US alright, most of it is in the hands of the few though. Middle class is being eroded by the 1%.

A friend who has a record store (thriving BTW) asked me which category Diana Krall albums belong in- I told him "Adult Contemporary Audiophile".

I went to the 1st Stereophile show, some 30+ years ago. I'm reading this thread out of curiosity and it's amazing to see that 3-4 decades in, the exact same complaints define these shows. Generally sub standard sound, unmanageable crowding, and the one that truly surprises me, the overall bland, limited selections of music being played. How is it possible with decades of show reports available, that so many presenters continuously repeat the same mistakes, year in and year out. Don't they read? How can they NOT be aware of the problems, they've been pretty much the SAME problems from the very beginning. While I understand the listening conditions at these shows to be the primary challenge, its difficult to understand the bland music, or exactly why the same selections would be used in a continuous loop.

Ive read so many great reviews of them, i really wanted to hear them in person. They did not disappoint. I felt they were the best reasonably priced and even reasonably sized speakers at the show. They win my little guy award among rooms full of $30k+ speakers.

Ive struggled to enjoy the MBL room in the past. I felt it was worst of show for me for several years, I always wanted to like them! However this year I walked in and just loved their sound. Guess it shows music choice and setup really matter a lot. Glad I finally got to hear what they can really do.

We went into a room to listen to a pair of speakers i was very interested in hearing. We wanted to hear something we were familiar with but the rep said they weren’t hooked up to the internet! It’s in a hotel with WiFi and one of the biggest shifts in source nowadays is steaming. How could you miss that????with streaming capabilities, we should be able to pick whatever we want to listen to. Plus, nobody has CD players in demos, so am I supposed to bring a stack of my own lp’s?

Perhaps because some people sell stereo equipment and some people buy stereo equipment - it doesn't mean either one listens to music. One long time dealer who has dealt with manufacturers for 40 years noted that some manufacturers have vast music selections, go to music events and when they design stuff - it keeps them up at night when they can't get the right sound. Other manufacturers make stuff from a text book - may as well be a toaster - they don't listen. It measures good it is good and they can get the margin they want.

Now there is ONE reason I suspect that playing the same track over and over again makes some sense - you get a frame of reference - if you play Hotel California or "Keith Don't Go" in every room you can hear how each room/system handles that recording. Perhaps this is the reason behind the audiophile show soundtrack.

I went to both, again this year. As a wood worker they are stunning. Sonically I thought they were my worst of show. I really want to like them but in the 3 years Ive gone to the salk room Ive never heard anything I liked at all. Shame they cant get a decent demo together because they are stunningly well crafted.

I am the opposite - I don't want to hear a streamed source - I want the LP or the CD which consistently sounds the best - and some rooms have neither. Now I get not having a turntable but no CD player? Some manufacturers do not make a streamer or computer audio sources. What they should do is bring a few 200 CD binders a long with a wide cross section of music - then they should have something you know and something you like.

I was at one room were they had only 6 albums. Worse - Magnepan's room had a time limit - you could listen for 15 minutes - they put on some light classical music at low volume. No requests granted. So it could be worse.
