I like the strings, I hope they really are "strings".

The Holy Trinity for me. Plus, new releases from The Black Keys, Raconteurs, Willie Nelson, and two smaller indie bands I like. Makes my head spin.

Initial thoughts on “Hello Sunshine” from the new album.
Vocals are very good, accompaniment is good.
Nice arrangement. Good pedal steel. Nice touch, strings too..(synth?)
Nice production by Bruce and Aniello.
Melody and the sound and feel of song, as mentioned, resembles a mix of “Everybody’s Talkin” and “Good Time Charlie”..
    A homage?

The cover of the album looks like it could be a cover of another Steve Miller Hits album.
    It’s ok. Not that bad.

I just listened to the song and I have to say I really like it a lot on first listen. It's just lovely.
I've been discovering and enjoying the song craft of Lyle Lovett and early Tom Waits lately and this song just feels like a nice late night listen over a whiskey.
    I'm in!:righton:

Calling this a solo album, though he made it with many collaborators including his longtime producer Ron Aniello, original E Street Band keyboard player David Sancious, and the multi-instrumentalist and genius song-shaper Jon Brion, Springsteen is drawing connections between this new music and earlier inner journeys like Tunnel of Love and Working on a Dream. It's hard to know if "Hello Sunshine" reflects the dominant mood of Western Stars or will prove to be an outlier, but its contemplative tone seems like a natural extension of Springsteen's memoiristic Broadway show – and a good place for a man who's expert in confronting the blues to dwell. -NPR

Nice post. I detected a bit of a "With Every Wish" vibe (which is a song I always liked from "Human Touch")
He's toyed with this sound somewhat before. Here, it works quite nicely.
I like your line about this being music by adults, for adults. That's where I'm at in life right now as I approach 60; I need music that speaks to me and my generation.

    Good catch...

    NPR-
In the early 1970s, the singer-songwriter Danny O'Keefe had a "very mellow, beautiful friend," as he told Rolling Stone magazine, who'd lived too hard and was paying the consequences. Heart attacks and pain pills burdened the guy's life, and O'Keefe, himself rolling into his thirties, identified. O'Keefe told his friend's story in the ballad "Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues" – one of the loveliest, most soothing accounts of creeping oblivion popular music has produced. It was a hit for the Washington state-born singer-songwriter and remains a favorite for others to cover, from Elvis and Waylon Jennings to Dwight Yoakam.

"Hello Sunshine," the new song from Bruce Springsteen's upcoming album Western Stars(to be released June 14) dwells within the same uneasy drift...

Also, I have to add that "Wichita Lineman" is one of my all time favourite songs. Mark Knopfler has taken a crack at writing a Jimmy Webb influenced song or two and they're really nice. They're a homage, not a rip off. (The Knopfler song is called "Hard Shoulder" from 10 years ago and it's really lovely)

It's funny what time can do.
I clearly remember "outrage" among many back when "Nebraska" and "Tunnel Of Love" were first released.
    Now they're both fan favourites.

    Some "solo" album....

Seriously, does multiple engineers listed offer a clue that perhaps this song was pieced together from sessions spanning multiple years?

Huh, Marc Muller on pedal steel. Local musician I’ve played with a few times. Talented guy, good for him.

I predicted yesterday that this thread would likely be equal parts bitching and negativity and equal parts positive.
    Seems like I was right.
Just like it is with U2.
Predictability is as easy on this forum at times as finding a Beatles thread.

Basic track/drums/strings. If all were recorded separately there would be different engineers, and what difference does it make? All I know is that the track is beautiful and this is the first Springsteen release I've been excited about in a long time. Can't wait for the album.
