Looking at that makes me wish someone would put up a "WE BUY "FILLMORE EAST- June '71" store, next to that "WE BUY WHITE ALBUMS" store! There'd only be like...THREE albums there.....
Just listened yesterday to three recent acquisitions: Baby Snakes: way less enjoyable for me than Halloween 77, for some reason I can't quite figure out. I myself wouldn't have listened to Baby Snakes and thought to myself that it really needed to be longer, but there you go. That's why I'm not the vaultmeister. Good call on Halloween 77 there, Joe. Francesco Zappa. Whatever. To me the least interesting of the synclavier albums, and I think I now have all of them (and I generally like the others). Does Humor Belong in Music? Great. Last Fall I was all into the 88 tour albums and really impressed by them (wasn't this supposed to be Zappa's decade of disappointment?). Similar response here. A great and enjoyable set from the 84 tour. It may be true enough that his studio inspiration was a little dissipated in the 1980s, but his live performances were as strong as ever, at least to my ears and at least on the evidence of the 80s live albums he released in his lifetime.
I was a little 'Frank-ed out', but now, I'm back! Here's what's lined up today; then: then: and, finally,

Today, I introduced my girlfriend to... Hot Rats Apostrophe Sheik Yerbouti Have I Offended Someone? I got a few laughs, a few funny looks, a few "ohmigod"'s, but overall, she liked. So I did a good deed today.
Oh, she absolutely is. Loves the likes of The Doors, Beatles, Rush, Zeppelin, Halen, Floyd (she gets nicked for that, but I digress), Eagles, Mac, and doesn't go anywhere NEAR Top 40. Since Zappa has been bastardized by mainstream classic rock FM, she was curious. So yes, I do plan on marrying her someday.
Maybe the answer seems obvious or maybe it's well-known (but not known or remembered by me) that Zappa admitted this, but I've always wondered if Zappa wasn't primarily drawn to that "droodle" because it looks like "Z A"
