Yes, I got that, but I don't think that's actually a violation of Discogs policy.

    Sales & Transaction Policy

I'm not defending this guy in any way, but Discogs is a very seller-friendly marketplace (e.g. sellers can get negative feedback removed, which they can't on Ebay, etc.).

I don't see anything in your exchange that specifically violates a specific policy. I could be wrong. And I'm not saying you shouldn't have reported the guy, but I am saying, don't get your hopes up. Please update us on the outcome in any case.

Nothing really other than I did get a full refund. He can't be forced to reinstate the initial positive feedback he left. I did the right thing and changed my feedback to a neutral while still warning any future buyers fully.

This type of comment always makes me laugh:

"I just said not to buy more cd because your rating is very strict"

I also enjoy the "Near Mint For It's Age" grade some sellers use.

People, NEAR MINT is a physical condition not dependent on age. An item is either near mint or it is not. PERIOD.

And its corollary, "You got a good deal at that price."

I had more than a few people on eBay get needlessly aggressive when I challenged their "NM" record grading, especially when they proudly proclaimed they only did visual grading as play-grading would take way too much time. One guy said I had a lot of audacity to expect vinyl records to play reasonably quiet. In hindsight, I guess I did.

At least when you get a CD that isn't quite as described, the **** thing will still actually play without noise.

Not always, sometimes there can be drop-outs and a skip.

Yes. I've said in the past that there's no sliding scale for a NM grade. It means a disc which could pass for being new, allowing for only the least significant visible blemishes. Period.

A big part of the problem is that these kind of sellers HONESTLY think you're just picky. You're trying to screw THEM. No matter how much you explain your position, no matter how clear and polite you are, you're being unreasonable. After all, the CD plays fine, right? Why would anything else matter?

One time I bought a CD in allegedly NM condition; it turned out to have scuffing covering the entire playing surface. Like it had never seen the inside of a jewel case except when it was brand new and then again when the seller finally put it back in the case years later to ship it to me. His response to my request to return it for a refund consisted of a missive defending his integrity and honesty. It ran several paragraphs long (like many of my posts :D ), with a concluding statement of "it's a great condition CD and it's not easy to find. You got a bargain".

Some people just don't get it. What can you do?

Except register a claim through Paypal. ;)

Definitely. Another grade I've seen used by sellers at record shows and other sites is the "plays mint" phrase. I find that amusing, because an item could play like a mint copy and still have flaws or imperfections which drastically reduce the value of a particular record.

Or they use a cheap elliptical cart which isn't revealing at all and is quite forgiving of these imperfections.

Discogs removes negative feedback for sellers no matter what. I have seen guys rack up the negatives all with teh same reason and check a month later, they are gone and its a perfect feedback rating. Cant trust that site.

Depends on many factors. eBay doesn't let sellers give negative feedback so if I sell an item, I can't be forewarned of problem buyers.

Discogs will remove feedback if they see an exchange on the order page that they see is worthy of removal.

For instance, one buyer couldn't follow my instructions to make sure his Discogs and PayPal shipping addresses matched which one condition under which Discogs will support a seller. If the buyer refuses to do so, i can cancel the sale under that reason. Though the buyer has the option of leaving feedback, I can appeal to have it removed and they'll quickly see how the terms weren't followed and remove that feedback.

Point is most people fail to see context. We don't know the ins and outs of an order and the exchange contained therein. I wouldn't assume and jump to conclusions.

:agree: Exactly! You wouldn't believe how many negatives and neutrals I viewed where the buyer is complaining about shipping taking so long even though the seller did ship within 2 days. Like it's the sellers fault or something.
