I have to interject here. They are two distinct vowel sounds with no relation to each other, speed wise. Otherwise you've gone down that awful rabbit hole where you cannot distinguish "marry, merry, Mary" as three distinct vowel sounds. I feel sorry for those who can't hear it. I look at as the auditory equivalent of color-blindness.

I agree - to pronounce fairy you must open your mouth a little more than when pronouncing ferry

The Spanish group Mocedades. Is the 'c' hard or soft?
Save your sympathy, thanks. The issue here is clearly that pronunciation is different in the US from in the UK and Australia. Also your mention of "marry" is irrelevant to the issue; the vowel sound there is the short 'a' and is completely different from the other two.

What about my name? Jarle. (It means the same as the English Earl, but the pronunciation has changed on the way from Norse to English...)

I saw one of my favourite songwriters, Labi Siffre, being mentioned earlier in this thread. Does anybody know how he pronounces his name? It sure would help me spread the word about his wonderful music and lyrics.

    Is it "Mc Lock lin"?
    or
    "Mc Loff Lin"
    or
"Mc Locgh (guttural French-ish back of the throat sound)-lin"
    ?

And Chilean group "Inti Illimani" - Any Chilenos out there able to enlighten me? Something tells me those two 'l's are pronounced more like an "h" but not sure what to do with the syllables & inflection.

...and that's how the Italians would say it, so I'm inclined to believe this.
